Gastric Fundus … a Key Area in Suppressing Hunger
I believe that gastric mucosa is an important and long neglected satiety area. In June 27th, 2008, I announced my theory on American Chronicle website. This theory entails that there is a spot at the fundus of the stomach which if hit by solid foods will lead to non-expansion of the stomach, hence less accommodation for food and as a result weight loss occurs. I tried Luqaimat nuts (5 pieces) several times daily in hitting that area in hundreds of obese patients and they achieved greater weight loss than those applying the ordinary Luqaimat diet plan.
I believe that the fundus of the stomach is a key area in the hunger-satiety complex. Around 90% of Ghrelin hormone is secreted at the fundus. On the other hand, the fundus is richly innervated by the vagal afferents, which I think that it may be responsible for sensation of satiety. I called this area Elhashemy's Stomach Satiety Spot "ESSS".
"ESSS" is the first theory to postulate that there must be a spot in the stomach that when being hit in a certain way will lead to non-expansion of the stomach musculature.
Stimulation of "ESSS" may cause boosting satiety vagal afferents, which is more effective than suppression of Ghrelin hormone, because it acts directly on the musculature of the stomach. Hence it results in greater weight loss.
