Greenspan on McCain's tax plan

This political season is one of the most important ones facing voters in America in quite some time due to the slumping economy and general jobless situation. Voters, more than ever, are looking to the candidates for resolve to these pressing issues. Record numbers of families are in foreclosure, or facing foreclosure in the not too distant term. There have been staggering job losses and rising costs for energy and food stuffs across America leaving people to fend for their families with even less. The tax cuts dolled out to the richest 5% under the Bush Administration have done nothing to quell the mounting uncertainty amongst middle and lower class Americans. Alan Greenspan had occasion to speak about these tax cuts and those proposed by the candidates and this is what he said. [Johnson, G. 2008, A.P.]

Alan Greenspan was former chairman of the Federal Reserve under numerous Administrations and only recently retired to join the ranks of regular America. He has been outspoken in much of the policies that Bush and Company championed because they have added to our already swollen deficit and been largely financed by China. America and Americans enjoyed a prosperous livelihood and surplus of budget under the direction of President Clinton. This sadly has not been the case under the Bush presidency and Senator McCain has stated that he would leave the Bush tax cuts to those richest 5% of Americans, tallying up to $3.5 Billion dollars, in place if he is elected president this fall. Senator Obama would repeal those tax cuts and instead provide relief to the 95% that was forgotten under the Bush tax cuts and those sanctioned by the McCain camp. It is the responsibility of government to do the right thing for the people and clearly the tax cuts issued under Bush and supported by McCain do not! They do not even come close. Don´t Americans deserve better?

Mr. Greenspan said that those tax cuts to the top 5% of rich America, put in place by the Bush Administration and sanctioned by the McCain camp, are a bad idea unless they can be offset by cuts in other government spending and America cannot cut her spending unless, or until, we stop this frivolous war in Iraq which is costs us $20 million dollars per day or more. McCain wishes to continue this war and that means America continues to slip further and further into debt. This debt will take many generations to come close to paying off or down. Do future generations deserve to have to pay for mistakes made under the Bush Administration indefinitely? I say not.

McCain said he would finance his tax plan by putting an end to pork-barrel spending of which his partner, Sarah Palin, was an egregious and greedy supporter until she was exposed for her lies and deception in the "bridge to no where" when she said she championed putting an end to that type of wasteful government spending. I say get real because you cannot have it both ways! I would assume the lesson there is; that as long as the monies appropriated under pork barrel spending are going into your states coffers they are wrong and should be stopped. Now let me ask you this? Is this the type of government America wants and the people of America deserve? I dare say not! America and Americans deserve leaders who can set and adhere to a budget, leaders who are honest and truthful, and a government that is transparent and listens to the voice of her people instead of those from special interest groups, PAC´s, or lobbyists. Obama supports this transparency and the voice of the people.

With leadership like McCain and Palin America and Americans are doomed to slip further into the abyss. This "do as I say and not as I do" mentality is dangerous and has been a contributing factor to the decline of everything American including jobs lost to outsourcing and trade agreements that give a leg up to our competitors leaving us little alternative except to lag behind. McCain said he would cut plans like social security and medicare to help pay for his and Bush´s tax cuts. These are benefits that can ill afford to be cut. Can America and Americans afford to lose even more under a McCain/Palin presidency? I say not, we have given up enough! Americans need to demand that our government do something for us! Senator Obama´s tax plans do for Americans! Senator Obama´s plan helps those families that earn under $250,000 per year unlike the Bush and McCain plan. Senator Obama has heard the voices of Americans and promises to act on them accordingly! Vote Obama/Biden in 2008 because these are changes that ALL Americans deserve and not just the elite few!
