How Easy Is It To Perform a Reverse Email Lookup?

Randy Eadon
If you email regularly you probably have a very good idea of what spam or questionable emails look like, and promptly delete these messages from your Inbox. However, there may come a time when you receive a message that you are not sure of, and debate whether or not you should mark it as junk or open it. In these situations, or in other circumstances when it becomes important for you to know the identity of a sender (I.E. e-mail harassment, you think the sender is a relative or friend, client, etc.), it´s a good idea to investigate.

How can you find out who has been sending you email? One of the most popular ways to obtain the answer you seek is to use a reverse e-mail lookup. This is a service that allows you to find out information related to an electronic mail address, such as the IP (Internet Protocol) address, name of the owner, their age, date of birth, gender, etc. Sometimes even personal data may be revealed including the individual´s email server, mailing address and phone number. Usually the amount of info revealed depends on what is listed in the actual account.

How do you use it? It´s easy: Enter the full email address, which also includes the domain name, into the query box provided on the site providing the service. You then click the "go", "search", etc. button and wait for results. However, what you will probably discover is that you will not be able to effectively find any details regarding the e-mail you search for free. Why? Unfortunately, there is no universal directory for electronic mail. Understand, this doesn´t mean that a reverse lookup does not work; it simply means if you want to find any real info, you´ll need to pay for it.

Why do you need to pay? Companies who have a database of emails must constantly continue to add and discard addresses to keep their directory up-to-date. Furthermore, they may also have paid to obtain the facts they have. Thus, to access their information bank, you are subject to a convenience fee.

Nevertheless, regardless if you pay for a reverse email lookup or use a free service, you will find that both are very easy to use, and results, or lack thereof, are returned quickly.
