The Japanese Constitution: U.S.A. Take A Lesson

Stan Grimes
In 1946 the Japanese government weak from its destructive losses of World War II and with encouragement from General Douglas Macarthur, created a constitution. Within the content of this constitution, one very important article was written which is central to the country?s foundation, the denouncement of war. Japan will not take up arms in an act of war against anyone. This relatively new government has lasted sixty years without failure. Japan has survived well without the burden of war weighing it down and impeding its progress.

The United States has no such limiting article in its constitution. Our founding fathers wrote this country?s constitution without the knowledge that future leaders might be reckless in their charge of this country?s future. Little did they know that a president, who took the Oath of Office, would dispense his personal agenda on the backs of the young soldiers in his military? Over two thousand of our very finest have been denied life because of the misguidance of one single man. ?I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.?

When George W. Bush stood before the people of this nation and said that Iraq without a doubt had weapons of mass destruction, was he faithfully executing the office of President? When he made the announcement major warfare in Iraq was over, was he protecting the Constitution? When he allowed the NSA to tap phone lines to catch terrorists, was it the best of his ability and in the best interest of this country's citizens?

We went to war under false pretenses and the war continues under false pretenses. Every time the president opens his mouth and declares, ?We are winning in Iraq,? a red light should flash and a buzzer should sound. His mother, Barbara, should then take him by his ear and spank him with his buddy Dick watching with his shotgun loaded with quail-shot.

Bill Clinton lied under oath about the Monica Lewinsky affair and the entire Republican Party swooped down with impeachment papers like a buzzard striking a crippled mouse. George W. Bush took an oath of office and has been lying through his teeth ever since. I see no impeachment hearings being considered. Why? Lying under oath no matter what the oath is still a lie.

I applaud the forefathers of the Japanese government for their success and for their wisdom and foresight, and their magnificent technical advances. I also enjoy their Asahi Beer.
