County Derry / Londonderry

County Londonderry or County Derry is one of the six counties of Northern Ireland in the Irish province of Ulster. It was named after its main town – and later city and administrative centre – Derry (or Londonderry), which lies in the north-western corner of the county situated on the River Foyle. County Derry has the third largest population of the Northern Irish counties with over 200,000 residents.

Outside of Derry city, the next largest settlement is the town of Coleraine. Before County Derry was formed there used to be a County Coleraine with significantly different borders from the counties of today. Even after the birth of County Derry, Coleraine remained as the county town of the region for many years until an administrative reorganisation in 1973.

The county´s other main towns are Limavady, Maghera, Magherafelt and Portstewart (a popular seaside resort with over 2 miles of beach).
