Border Security?

Stan Grimes
"There are several gaps in our defense," so said Senator Norm Coleman, R-Minnesota. That statement is a definitive understatement if ever there was one. If millions of people can walk across our borders in the dark of night or in the dazzling light of day, one would easily make that claim. Suddenly, out of the wonderland of Washington D.C. comes the revelation; the United States has a security problem at their borders.

Politicians can?t be blamed for just now having an epiphany about what happens beyond the beltway. After all, they need their vacations and they need to keep in contact with their lobbyists. Politicians are busy people. Democrats are too busy being repulsed by our Commander-And-Chief and the Republicans are too busy trying to figure out what planet the Commander-And-Chief was born on.

Several gaps? The gaps are so big sixteen wheelers are able to carry carloads of illegal immigrants across the border without detection of the shorthanded border guards on both sides of the border. That being the case, who?s to say a ?dirty bomb? couldn?t be driven across the border in broad daylight? For that matter, who?s to say an armed missile couldn?t be driven across the border? Maybe an entire army?

A derogatory phrase used in management nowadays for inept and under-skilled supervisors is ?management by crisis.? In other words, decisions aren?t made until something becomes a crisis. The supervisor has a known murderer working for him but does nothing about the guy until he shoots the supervisor?s secretary. The United States appears to be managing by crisis. Until 500,000 protestors take to the streets of Los Angeles, we never had a problem. Huh?

As mentioned before we really shouldn?t blame our Representatives and Senators. These hard ?working? men and women only earn an average of $165,000 a year. What do you expect? They only work about a third of the year. You can?t expect them to know we have a problem with security, can you? No wonder Rummy and his friends think the Iraqi war is going so well, they?re not at work. Gee, they only see what?s being presented on CNN and MBC, those negative news medias?the ?second? axis of evil.
