Srinagar, Sept 3: The residents of North Kashmir staged massive demonstrations against Indian troops for committing excesses.
The residents of Ladoora, Rafiabad in North Kashmir alleged that the Indian army personnel deployed in the area have let loose a ‘reign of terror’.
“The army personnel in the dead of the night barge into our houses, ransack the household goods and beat the inmates to pulp. They also misbehave with the womenfolk,” said the locals. They alleged that the army personnel have made their lives miserable and they don’t consider themselves safe within the four walls of their houses.
“After the recent freedom marches, the army personnel have let loose a reign of terror in the area and are making our lives miserable,” the residents alleged.
They said that scores of persons have been beaten by the army personnel.
It is pertinent to mention here that tens of thousands of people participated in the freedom marches and rallies in Kashmir last month. After the overwhelming response to the freedom marches and rallies, the authorities imposed strict curfew in Kashmir. Even the media men were barred from performing their professional duties.
People of Ladoora, Rafiabad came out on roads on Wednesday and staged massive anti-India demonstrations. Raising anti-India, anti-forces and pro-freedom slogans, the protestors were demanding action against the soldiers responsible for committing excesses. They also demanded shifting of the army personnel from the area.
The protestors blocked the vehicular movement on the road for nearly three hours. Later, top police and civil officials rushed to the spot and assured the protestors that the matter would be looked into. After their assurances, the protestors dispersed off peacefully.
However, the shops and business establishments in the area remained closed as a mark of protest against the excesses committed by the Indian troops.
