Arizona DUI Law - The toughest in the nation

Daniel Jaffe

Once again the Arizona DUI Taskforce has made the news. This memorial day weekend the Southern Arizona DUI taskforce arrested 50 people for misdemeanor and felony DUI. Of those arrested, 11 of them were alleged to have been extreme, or a .150 percent body alcohol concentration or more.

The Taskforce included the Tucson Police Department, Nogales, University of Arizona, the Pima County Sheriff's Department, and Arizona Department of Public Safety.

When compared to other state's DUI Law, Arizona DUI law is arguably the strictest and most punitive. The question remains, do these tougher laws save lives.

So far the stats can be interpreted to support that proposition. In 2007, the number of DUI related deaths in Arizona decreased significantly.

I will continue to follow this story and post updates as they become available.
