Rewriting Life Scripts with Irene Watson, Author of THE SITTING SWING

Dorothy Thompson
Irene Watson's pretentious life could go no further until she faced her past. Her moving and inspiring memoir begins at the end, in a recovery center, where she has gone to understand a childhood fraught with abuse, guilt and uncertainty. Her powerful story is a testament that it´s never too late to change your life, never too late to heal.

Her latest book, The Sitting Swing, shows us how guilt, fear and ignorance are borne by our children. Two distinct parts of the book look at an abusive child rearing and the process of recovery that takes place years later. On many levels this is a classic story showing us that change, growth, forgiveness and recovery are possible. It is also a heart warming healing story and a testament to the strength and courage of the human spirit. In the end it gives hope and freedom to those that accept the past and move forward by rewriting life scripts that have been passed down for generations.

We interviewed Ms. Watson to find out more about the author behind the book.

Thank you for this interview, Irene. Can you tell us a little about your latest book, The Sitting Swing?

My pretentious life could go no further until I faced my past. My memoir begins at the end, in a recovery center, where I had gone to understand a childhood fraught with abuse, guilt and uncertainty. My story is a testament that it´s never too late to change your life, never too late to heal.

"The Sitting Swing: Finding Wisdom to Know the Difference" shows us how guilt, fear and ignorance are borne by our children.

What was the inspiration behind your book? Why did you feel a need to write it?

I had a story to tell, and I felt my story was going to help others heal from dysfunctional experiences in their childhood. I believe it´s never to late to find a way to re-write our scripts passed down for generations. By telling my story, I feel it gives hope to others.

What message are you trying to convey with this book?

It´s never too late to change, it´s never too late to heal. Basically, the bottom line is knowing that we can re-write life scripts; we don´t have to live the same scripts that have been passed down for generations.

Can you tell us a little about the publisher who published your book? How have they been to work with?

Loving Healing Press is the publisher. They have been wonderful to work with. I´m in the publishing industry myself and know a lot of publishers, first and second tier. My experience with LHP supersedes any of my expectations as well as I know they have done for me more than any other publisher would, or does.

Do you blog? If so, what can you tell my readers about the advantages of blogging as a useful tool in book promotion?

Yes, I have a blog. http://irenewatson.typepad.com/irenes_weblog/. I´ve been posting articles relating to my book, e.g. parenting, addictions, spirituality, etc. I believe blogging is a crucial part of a marketing plan. This is one way to getting people to recognize you and your book.

Do you have a website? Do you manage it yourself or do you have someone run it for you?

A website is extremely important. It show your presence in the world, so yes, definitely I do have one. www.irenewatson.com. I had an expert develop the site for me and I maintain it myself.

Thank you for this interview, Irene. Do you have any final words you´d like to share with my readers?

And thank you for having me. Yes, I sure do have final words to share. To the reader of this interview I say…rewriting life scripts is no different than re-writing a manuscript. You just do it. The rewards are enormous.
