Elhashemy's Broad Spectrum Luqaimat Diet Plan .....19. The Luqaimat Antioxidant Factor
In this article, I will discuss the advantages of using high-potency antioxidant foods in the Luqaimat diet plan to manage inflammatory obesity.
Antioxidants neutralize free-radicals, which are substances that damage cells. While our bodies constantly produce free-radicals, healthy tissues inactivate these damaging substances. However, when free-radical production exceeds the body's natural defenses, problems and diseases like cancer, Alzheimer's, and inflammation may result.
Some scientists consider obesity as a form of inflammation; others consider it as a form of infection and named it infecto-obesity. Antioxidants may fight inflammation by helping the body to break down free-radicals.
The following groups are among the foods containing most potent antioxidants:
1. Artichokes.
2. Beans including: red beans, black beans, red kidney beans, and pinto beans.
3. Berries including: wild blueberries, blueberries, cranberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries.
4. Prunes, black plums.
5. Fruits including: apple and dark and red grapes.
6. Nuts including: pecans and walnut.
7. Sweet potatoes.
8. Sweet cherry.
9. Spices including: ground cloves, ground cinnamon, ground black pepper, and oregano.
I discussed in one of my previous articles titled: "Elhashemy's Broad Spectrum Luqaimat Diet Plan ......4. The Superfood Slimming Factor", the benefits of these foods containing some of these antioxidant foods.
The potency of antioxidants depends on their concentration in each type of food and on how they are absorbed from the intestines.
The advantage of using antioxidants foods in Luqaimat form:
Since inflammation is considered one of the factors of obesity, I advised many of my obese patients to manage their obesity through using such foods containing potent antioxidants in Luqaimat form (i.e. very small doses) repeatedly several times every day. My aim was to help complete absorption of such foods by the intestines in order to maximize its utilization by the body's cells. There is a notable example which is oral calcium intake. If you give the patient one gram in a single dose it will be less absorbed and hence less effective than taking one fourth of gram every 6 hours.
During the last five years, I advised most of my obese patients to take prunes and black plums in Luqaimat form and they achieved very outstanding weight loss. My aim was to boost their metabolism through the intake of these foods that contain a very potent antioxidant called anthocyanins. This advice has been proven correct as recent studies indicate that this natural pigment which is responsible for the purple color of prunes and black plums may help prevent obesity.
I will publish more details about the importance of this antioxidant factor of my scientific diet plan in my upcoming diet book by the end of 2008.
