Xbox 360 Problems - If You See The Red Lights Read This First!
Nearly all of the problems are caused by overheating and the design of the Xbox 360, as if you think the components inside the console by the same as a high end gaming PC and they do produce ever such a lot of heat with not enough cooling.
If you see the red lights on your Xbox then the only ones that you really need to be worried about is the 1 red light and the 3 red light error, both of these indicate hardware failure and that some of the components have burnt out.
So if you see those you really have two choices you can either ring Microsoft customer support which is a good idea if you are still in warranty or you can attempt to fix it yourself, which is possible if you find a good repair guide that will show you how to stop the two main chips from taking so much heat.
If you are uncomfortable taking things apart or doing diy jobs then I would suggest that you give Microsoft a ring and they will arrange to come and pick the Xbox up for you the only downside being is that you will be without your Xbox for about 3 to 4 weeks.
If you have not yet seen the red lights then a good idea is to purchase some additional cooling and the best one in my opinion would be a Nyko Intercooler. This is a fan that clips on to the back of your console and is very noisy but does provide 3 extra Fans to pump air out of your Xbox and that will stop the overheating problem.
Also on the point of extra cooling make sure that you keep your power pack which is the big brick that came with your Xbox up off the floor on an open box or something, as if you've noticed the power brick also has little fans in that pump out air and if you keep it on top of an open box it will allow it to breathe more easily.
Another thing you can try before you ring Microsoft customer support without taking the Xbox apart is to stand the Xbox up vertically and place a palm on either side of the DVD drive and squeeze!
This may sound a bit mad but as long as you apply firm pressure you made help the motherboard to settle back into place thus fixing the problem.
