Data Loss in Novell Due to Nonmaskable Interrupts and Novell Data Recovery

Sometimes, while working on Novell Netware server database, it may crash with the following abend:
"Abend 1 on P00: Server-5.00l: Nonmaskable Interrupt Processor Exception (Error code 000000B0)"
After this error message, the system freezes and you can´t access any data from the system. It can cause the serious problems of data loss.
Cause
This behavior occurs due to the Nonmaskable Interrupt or NMI. When it happens, no hardware or software parts of the Novell server remains in working state and thus server freeze occurs.
A NMI or Nonmaskable Interrupt is a computer processor interrupt which could not be unobserved by standard interrupt masking technologies in the Novell system. It is usually used to signal attention for irrecoverable hardware errors.
The NMI is often used when the response time is critical, and when an interrupt must never be disabled in to general operation of the server. Though, it is the important system process but sometimes causes the critical data loss.
Resolution
To overcome such problems, you can disable the Nonmaskable Interrupts of your Novell server. It will never let the operating system to interrupt the process in such ways and the problem will never occur in the future.
Thought it works in some cases, but disabling the Nonmaskable Interrupts is never recommended as you won´t be able to address the hardware problems if you have disabled them.
