Where to Go to Find Out the Owner Of A Phone Number

Greg Wilson
There are many different ways you can find out who is calling when nothing comes up on the caller ID, and when the person refuses to say who they are or leave a message. You may have to go through a series of different sources before you find what you are looking for, but it may not take as much time as you may think. Use any and all of these tools to get what you need.

You may have to start at the simplest point if you do not know much about the number in question. You should find out if it is a landline number by going to the online white pages. When you get there, use the reverse phone lookup they offer. This should be free. You enter the number in question. You may get what you need instantly. If not, you can assume the number is unlisted in all directories, not listed online, or is a mobile number.

If you find that the number seems to be business or toll free, you can use the same type of free reverse lookup on the online yellow pages. When nothing comes up there, you should see if you can find a site that lists troublesome phone numbers. These list unknown numbers that have bothered others and then any information those that have posted them have found. These user-driven sites are becoming more common and are very helpful.

You may also want to see what comes up when you use the search engines and other search sites. The searches like MSN and Google may not come up with much, but they are worth a try. You can also use sites like Wink.com to search through all social networks for matches. Yahoo People Search may also be of some help.

When nothing else works, you have one more option that you can try. Use what is called a reverse cell phone lookup. You go there and enter the number to see what they can find. You can get some free information, and then pay a fee for more details if you wish for it or have to know more.
