Reverse Cell Phone Lookups: An Invasion of Privacy?

Greg Wilson
Today, we worry more about more about the people around us. This is due in part to terrorist activity in the past decade, and because we hear more and more on the news about bad people doing very bad things. This means that what was once deemed to be private information is now stuff that some are demanding to know about others. One way to find out more is to use a reverse phone number lookup, but should you worry that this is an invasion of privacy?

There is no clear answer to that question, and it greatly depends on your point of view and what you think you want to use such a source of information to find out. You may feel totally justified if you think there is a child molester calling your child´s cell phone, or if you are sure someone calling your spouse is trying to break into your marriage with the intent of breaking it up. The first is something most would agree is okay, but the second one is iffy with some people.

In the case of suspected adultery, it is easy enough to use reverse lookup to find out who owns unknown numbers showing up in your spouse´s call list. You can find out who called and even where they are through reverse lookup. What happens though, if the call is really innocent but you fly off the handle? What if that person has no idea someone is married, and is really innocent of all wrong doing? Does it matter to you when your marriage is as stake and when you know adultery is legal grounds for divorce?

You should know that this is something that people debate all of the time, but as it stands, there are reverse lookups online that can give out information on many cell phone numbers. When you think about looking up someone this way, think about your reasons for doing so. If they were doing that to you for the same reasons, would you feel violated? That can help you decide if you should proceed or not.

If you feel you have a right to do a reverse phone lookup, there are plenty of places that offer this to you through the Internet. Though you can do what you want, and it may be that no one would ever know that you did a search, know that many feel you have no right to that information unless they are the ones giving it to you. Do what you think is best.
