UFO´s and the Bible - Reconsiderations

Steve Bass
There is a line of research in Ufology that asserts that Jesus Christ was actually a pawn placed here by an alien civilization to help Mankind in some way. Following this line of thought, an alien civilization sought out, or stumbled upon our lonely planet, noticed it was inhabited, and felt the need to help. Why do they feel the need to help in this or any civilization´s growth? Do they just go around the galaxy finding backward civilizations and start meddling in their affairs? Are they so egocentric that they need to be the focus of worship? Is there an inferiority complex that drives them to become a godhead for some backwater civilization?

Logically, if their aim was to help, they went to a lot of trouble for very little net result. We still fight. We still hate. We still think of our own petty desires over the welfare of others. We still prefer taking an expensive vacation than giving to the community. In other words, they are failing miserably.

Some people, bless their souls, work very hard at rewriting the Bible to sound more like a chronicle of alien visitation. In II Kings 2, we find the story of the prophet Elijah passing the responsibility to continue God´s work on Earth to Elisha. As you continue with the story, Elijah was taken to Heaven in a chariot of fire. Or was this a spacecraft and a kidnapping under false pretense and ill intent? When you study period writings, you have to do so from a standpoint of placing yourself in the technology and knowledge of the day. There are very few vehicles to compare this "chariot of fire" with: maybe a boat, a wagon, and a chariot. The original writer is doing their best to describe what they are seeing. With the inherent vagaries of description, that leaves the researcher with a lot of room to maneuver. If you really want to see spaceships, you will see spaceships. Or you will see God working. This all makes for interesting reading, but it doesn´t get us anywhere.

By the way, ancient statues have been found in the Middle East that resembles a person, possibly an ancient astronaut wearing headphones. You must wonder how they found out about headphones in that far-off day and time, and why they thought them so important that they incorporated this into their artwork. It seems interesting that a civilization that can travel across star systems would utilize a 1970´s era headphone design. I personally think they look something like earmuffs. Maybe their ears were cold! Some historic art has been found with anomalies painted onto them that some ascribe to a flying saucer. They could really just be birds. Birds do exist, and if you want a painting that incorporates landscapes, what better artifact to include than a bird?

When you think about a highly advanced external force influencing Earth cultures through the structure of religion, the first step would be to develop a religious structure that would operate in harmony with itself, and not be open to interpretation. In other words, it´s a lot easier if everyone is on the same page.

You can pose the argument that every culture is different, and if you want to observe the minutiae, every single person is unique to themselves. A multitude of cultures are in need of a variety of belief systems to get everyone to the same point in the end, and that poses problems. First, not all belief systems, or if you would prefer to call them religions, have the same focus or end-design. Most believe in moving to a higher plane of existence, some put the focus on Mankind itself, while others try to focus on a "god point". Some belief systems teach harmony and love, others teach insufferance to differing people, cultures, or belief systems to the extreme of butchering them on the spot!

Second, some belief systems are inconsistent with the concept of other life forms among the stars, people different than us. As an alien influence, you are shooting yourself in the foot if you develop a belief system, or even allow a belief system to continue that does not allow for off-world civilizations. That creates inherent difficulties when introducing yourself in an official capacity to the little Earthlings (I prefer Terrans; this is Terra Firma, is it not?).

Third, there is a line of consideration that religion is a crutch for the weak of spirit and that alien civilizations have advanced beyond the need for such a crutch. If advancement means shedding the need for religion, why would they confuse their "new students" by creating or adding to their smorgasbord of religions? The goal is to progress past the need for religions, isn´t it?

Some have even asserted that genetic tampering will move Humans to a new level of consciousness (not sure what that means, but a new level of consciousness to me would be being with the woman I married and that I love more than life itself) and beyond the weakness of religion and need for selfishness and hate. To validate this line of reasoning, you have to prove that consciousness is tied to genetics, which I do not believe to be the case. Consciousness is separate from the building blocks of the bodies we inhabit. That is like assuming that architectural plans for homes are intrinsically tied to the existence of the future owners of that finished house, and by altering the plans, you alter the people living inside the finished house.

Genetic tampering by well intentioned aliens is not going to put an end to war, selfishness, hate, or any other sin that these aliens have decided are keeping this civilization from open contact. Sin was brought into this world according to God´s Plan, and some well-meaning aliens are not going to be able to thwart that Plan. Let´s learn to keep things in perspective when researching Ufology. Aliens are not gods. They are nothing more than an advanced off-world civilization studying Earth-bound Humans. They are afraid of us, of our potential, and are in awe of us.

They are not going to able to change the very thing that makes us Human, free agency – the right to choose to sin or do what´s right. Honestly, if that is their goal, then Humans will never be ready for open contact with alien civilizations.
