Chocolate, Chocolate, Which Is Sweeter, Which Isn't

If one is a lover of sweets, then at some point in his or her life, he has had a craving for this kind of confection- chocolate.

Depending on where one has been raised, each of us has most likely grown accustomed to consuming the sort of chocolate that is around him or her.

If some one has been raised in America, then he or she has consumed the Hershey brand of chocolate, and he or she became accustomed to that.

Similarly, if some one, were say brought up on a British colony where the British influence is even stronger, then he or she may have grown used to consuming the Cadbury brand.

There are or were many forms from which to choose too. I recall something known simply as Caramel, Smarties, Eclairs and others that can be found on this site: https://www.britishgoodsonline.com/ The Smarties are similar to M & Ms.

In addition, there are also chocolate bars that are filled with raisins, nuts, pieces of fruit, even almonds. My favourite is the plain milk chocolate kind.

It is when one widens his horizons by travelling to different countries is when he can notice a marked difference in which kind of chocolate is sweeter than the other.


This was realised by me the first time I bit into a piece of Hershey chocolate. I observed it was not as sweet as the kind I had been consuming before, the Cadbury brand. I even recall thinking to myself such things as, this is not as sweet as I had expected, or is something wrong with my taste buds.

Of course, from conversing with others about the matter, it was learned that English or European chocolate is sweeter than American chocolate. Don’t get me wrong though, I do consume the occasional Hershey brand, mainly the milk chocolate, but when I feel the longing for something slightly sweeter, I go in search of the Cadbury brand as well.

It just goes to show that keeping an open mind and broadening one’s horizons can be a good thing. Had I not given Hershey chocolate a try, I might not have known that there is a chocolate that is sweeter.

Before that, I was under the impression that all chocolate, no matter which country it was made in or came from, had the same level of sweetness attached to its taste.

It just depends on which kind of chocolate one desires, the sweet kind or the not so sweet variety.
