The evidence of God

Rod Smith
It is everywhere. It´s in the lamb keeping pace with the ewe; it´s in the trust of the calf as it trots with its mother. We see the evidence of God in the new-born foal immediately getting to its feet. It was enabled that way by the Master´s hand.

The evidence of God is in the wind rustling the leaves; that same wind tousles the hair of people too busy to notice as they scurry in the streets.

The evidence of God is in the fact everyone gets older by the minute and eventually dies. No matter how rich, famous, influential, we cannot stop God´s decree any more than we can stop the dawn breaking and the sun setting. We can only gaze in awe at a storm as the lightning flashes fill the sky, and the thunder booms like a million bass drums.

If we have ears we will hear the evidence of God in the first cry of a baby; we will hear the roar of a lion as it announces its lordship of the African veldt. With eyes that see we will behold God in a hedgehog that becomes a spiky ball when attacked, or in the stripes of a zebra that help it to blend with its environment.

The evidence of God is in the faithful, enquiring face of a dog as it looks for directions from its owner.

The evidence of God is in the miaowing of a hungry cat, and the peculiar night sound of a tom-cat seeking to mate.

God is seen in the singing of the birds as they greet the new day. Are they giving thanks to the Almighty? If so they have more sense than we do.

The evidence of God is in the bats which fly in their thousands close together but inbuilt radar prevents them colliding; a miracle in itself. God is in the eagle which can fly the Atlantic with no jet propulsion. "Birds of a feather flock together" we say, but who makes them do it?

We need to stop and smell the rose containing a scent more beautiful than the highest-priced perfume. By contrast, God gave the skunk an opposite smell; so foul it repels any predator.

What a wondrous world this is if we will take time to examine it more closely.

The evidence of God is in the cancer patient (doomed in the best doctors´ opinion) who trusts in God without wavering and is miraculously healed. Yes it happens today for those who believe God´s Word - and will not budge from that belief no matter what the five senses tell them!

When we consider all that evidence of God, is it too difficult to believe God sent Jesus as the once-and-for-all sacrifice for our sins? Surely only pride and arrogance prevents us from having the salvation Jesus wants to give.

The Bible says: "The fool says in his heart there is no God."
