Headaches
There are two kinds of headaches, one of them are primarty. Primary headaches do not deal with other diseases. There are three types of primary headaches, tension headaches, migraine headaches, and cluster headaches. Tension headaches are the most common of all the primary headaches. Tension headaches are more common to women than they are to men. Migraine headaches are in children, and adults. Children normally have migraines before puberty, boys and girls get them equally. After puberty, more women get migraines than boys. Migraine headaches often get misdiagnosed, especially in the United States, as tension or sinus headaches. Therefore, people with migraine headaches do not receive working treatment. Cluster headaches are very rare. Most people get these headaches between the years of 28-30. Boys are more common to get this type of headaches than girls.
Secondary headaches is the other type of headache. Secondary headaches are caused by associated disease. These diseases may be life threatening conditions such as brain tumors and strokes, or they may be less serious such as loss of caffeine. Many people have "mixed" headaches, where a tension or secondary headache becomes a migraine.
The symptoms of these headaches are all different. A tension headache has mild pain, and is bilateral. Fortunetly, the sufferer can still function. Migraine headaches are throbbing, pounding, and intense pain that involves only one side of the head. It can also be located on the forehead, around the eye, or the back of the head. The affect of the migraine headache is a sensitivity to light and sound. If you have a migraine you should lay in a quiet, dark place. Symptoms of a migraine are sleepiness, fatigue, depression, yawming, and sweet or salty food cravings. The sufferer may fell low of energy for around 24 hours after the attack.
"Cluster headaches are headaches that come in groups (clusters) lasting weeks or months, separated by pain-free periods of months or years. During the period in which the cluster headaches occur, pain typically occurs once or twice daily, but some patients may experience pain more than twice daily. Each episode of pain lasts from 30 minutes to one and one-half hours. Attacks tend to occur at about the same time every day and often awaken the patient at night from a sound sleep." According to Dennis Lee, MD. They only affect one side,or behind one eye. Symtoms include, runny and congested nose on the affected side. These patients tend to be restless. They bang their head against a wall, pace on the floor, and can be driven to desperate measures. These headaches happen more often to men than they do women.
Migraine headaches are caused by a combination of vasodilation, and the release of chemicals from nerve fibers that coil around the blood vessel. Migraine headaches are a response to stress, they decrease the circulation of blood which causes cold feet and hands. Tension and cluster headaches donot have a clear cause. Doctors say that tension headaches can be caused by stress or a busy day. Alcohol and cigarettes can attribute to attacks of cluster headaches.
