Evolution Or Creation?

Judy Ramsook
Since I was a little girl I have wondered about the creation/evolution theories. Where did we really come from? What was the first living organism in the universe as we know it?

Why do all these things we do and die, leaving it all behind or for some one else to inherit? Will we ever find out the true meaning of life? Why keep on procreating? Is it because we want to keep on over populating a world that might some day run out of space? Why are some people light skinned and others darker? Why couldn’t we all have the same skin colour?

From time to time the above questions and more would take up space in my mind, as they did so I also wondered, was Charles Darwin on to something that mankind will argue back and forth about constantly.

For there are two groups of individuals. The ones who will hold on to their creation belief and those who believe in the evolution one. Those who strongly believe in the creation theory will argue down to the bone that his view is the right one and those who take Darwin’s side will do the same.

Although it can be difficult to get one to change his view on the subject, no matter which side he is on, we go about our daily lives as usual.

It is when we are rushing through life, more questions about the creation/evolution theories may creep up. Especially when one hears of the passing of a loved one or friend. Those familiar questions return.

Why are we here? Who put us here? If one believes in the creation theory, and if God is supposed to be everywhere, why go to a church, temple, mosque to pay tribute to him? For those who hold on to the evolution concept, from what did we evolve exactly? Will there come a time when mankind will return to what he was prior to what he is today, if he evolved?

If we were created, will the creator swoop down on us one day and make us all disappear? Making it seem as if we were never here? If that were to occur, would it seem as if all of mankind’s efforts to make this a better world all for nought?

We may live our entire lives and die but the answers to some of life’s most challenging questions may never be satisfactorily answered.

So what do we do in the mean time? Keep on living, and enjoying life the best you can like many people before us have. For, if we are not certain of anything else, one thing we are certain of is we were put here to live amongst each other.
