Eat Healthy: Avoid These 3 Common Diet Mistakes

Gail Davis
Do you want to eat healthy but you just can´t get started? Are your past failures keeping you from taking that first step towards having the body that you desire? Start by making a commitment that this time will be different! This time you´ll succeed by avoiding these three common diet mistakes.

The first diet mistake on your quest to eat healthy is to focus on the big picture. Never, ever, think in terms of, "I have to lose 40 pounds!" That is just too overwhelming and will set you up for failure. Don´t tell yourself that you have to diet forever to reach your goal. Instead, focus on each day by itself. Wake up and think, "Today I´ll eat healthy." So avoid the "big picture" mistake and focus on one day at a time. You´ll be surprised at how fast your individual days of success add up!

The second common diet mistake is giving yourself a time limit. You´ll want to eat healthy for the rest of your life! While taking weight off, you´ll eat less calories of course, but to maintain that weight loss, you´ll still need to eat healthy. Start discovering healthy recipes. Try new things to keep yourself motivated. Telling yourself that you must lose 40 pounds in four months is setting yourself up for failure. Does that mean that you won´t be happy if you lost 25 pounds in four months? The time is going to pass regardless; the only question is what you´re going to do with the time. So, take away those time restraints, concentrate on making each day a success, and let your body lose the weight on it´s own healthy time line.

The third common diet mistake when trying to eat healthy is to make too many changes at once. If you need to lose a significant amount of weight, chances are that you have developed some eating habits that aren´t going to be easy to break. Trying to change everything at once may leave you feeling deprived which will sabotage your weight loss efforts. Make small changes on your quest to eat healthy. Change a few things initially and add a few more changes each time you feel stronger and more in control. Small changes add up to big rewards!

Avoid these three common diet mistakes and you´ll be surprised at how quickly you reach your goal to eat healthy! Tackle your problem one day at a time, let your body set it´s own time line for success, and make small changes to get big results.
