How to Play the Classic Board Game – Chess

Peterson Evans

Chess is a classic board game that has been played for a long time. It is a strategic game putting two players against each other with the ultimate goal of putting the other player's "king" piece into checkmate. Each player starts with 16 pieces on their own side either being black or white. The white pieces will move first.

There are six different pieces in a chess set for each side and each has it own set of unique movements. The back row consists of two rooks, two knights, two bishops, a king, and a queen. The front row consists of only pawns. Pawns may only move forward one space at a time attack diagonally. Rooks can move as many spaces as wanted by the player but on in a horizontal or vertical movement on the board. Knights may move in an L shape consisting of 3 spaces up and 1 space over.

Knights are also the only unit that can jump over other pieces. Bishops can only move diagonally for an unlimited amount of spaces. The queen can move any direction and as many spaces as wanted. Finally, the king moves any direction but with only a movement of one space.

Each player takes a turn being able to move one piece. The ultimate goal is too place the other players king into check mate. That means the king piece can't move without being attacked. A check is an impending move that forces the king to move so to avoid being attacked. "Who Else Wants To Learn How To Dramatically Improve Their Chess Skills...In As Little As 7 Days?"
