Pat Robertson: Radical Muslims Are Motivated By Satan
Yeah right, and Rosie O'Donnell is going to start counting her calories and Paris Hilton is going to start dressing more modestly.
I knew it would only be a matter of time before Robertson put his foot in his mouth again, the televangelist is as addicted to the media spotlight as Rosie O'Donnell is attracted to her refrigerator.
If Pat Robertson simply preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ the mainstream media would ignore him, so every once in a while the spirit moves him to make a ridiculous statement that is guaranteed to garner media attention.
The controversial televangelist said Monday on his "700 Club" that Islam is not a religion of peace, and that radical Muslims are "satanic".
He went on to say that the Muslim riots over the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad "just shows the kind of people we're dealing with. These people are crazed fanatics, and I want to say it now: I believe it's motivated by demonic power. It is satanic and it's time we recognize what we're dealing with."
Don't get me wrong, I strongly denounced the violent way in which some Muslims reacted to the publication of the Muhammad cartoons, and I strongly encouraged the West not to be intimidated.
But it's beyond the pale for anyone, especially a religious leader, to accuse Muslims of being "motivated by demonic power."
We all know how the good reverend operates, he makes an idiotic and insensitive statement, and then he later insists he was misquoted or misunderstood. And then if the heat gets to be too much, he issues a half-hearted apology.
Sure enough, in a statement issued later Monday, Robertson claimed he was referring specifically to terrorists who want to bomb innocent people as being motivated by Satan.
Pat Robertson is full of it, and I'm not referring to the Holy Ghost. He specifically said that the Muslims who were demonstrating against the cartoons were "motivated by Satan".
The demonstrators were not hardened terrorists, they were ordinary Muslims who felt that their religion had been insulted.
Fortunately, even evangelicals are growing tired of Robertson's act. Last month the modern day Elmer Gantry lost a bid for re-election to the National Religious Broadcasters' board of directors.
Pat Robertson's pronouncements are not food for his flock, they are merely fodder for the late night comics.
Unfortunately, there are still a lot of faithful who support his ministry, when will you people wake up?
