Portland Police Chase Bank Robbery Suspect—many Cars Damaged
At approximately 3:10 in the late afternoon, the suspect´s vehicle was spotted by a part of a task force of the Clackamas County Sheriffs Department. After leaving the bank location in question at 14638 S.E. Sunnyside Road the police chase that ensued with the teal colored pickup truck was one for the books, ending up on Interstate 205.
This is when the suspected bank robber´s pickup truck swerved into the on coming lane of the freeway striking three other motorists. This occurred after several other police vehicles joined in the chase and an Oregon State Police vehicle bumped the rear of the pickup truck attempting to make it turn sideways and come to a halt. The three vehicles the pickup struck was a minivan that was side swiped, a compact auto that the pickup struck head on and the trailer of an 18-wheeler.
At the end of this rather epic chase the robbery suspect´s pickup finally came to an abrupt stop and the suspect exited the truck and paced toward the rear with his hands in the air. This is when police took him into custody without further incidence and he was transported to the hospital with minor injuries prior to being taken to Clackamas County Jail.
The robbery suspect was identified as Mitchell Sean Cooly aged 48, Cooly is being held on charges of bank robbery, attempting to elude police, reckless driving and parole violation according to the various news reports.
It was reported that there were some minor injuries sustained by some occupants of the three vehicles. Interstate 205 was closed in this vicinity for several hours after the chase and wrecks. Additional similiar news articles can be found at the blog located at the Keebdatabase Portal
It has also been reported by various online and offline media outlets that Cooley has at least twenty three prior convictions for robbery among the charges.
These are the type of charges that the suspect and now defendant will need the expertise of an Oregon felony defense Attorney or it looks like the defendent could be spending many months behind bars.
