Senator Russ Feingold Calls For Censure of George W. Bush

Senator Russell D. Feingold plans to introduce a measure in the Senate to censure President Bush over the domestic eavesdropping program.

"The president has broken the law and, in some way, he must be held accountable", Feingold explained. Quote appears in "The Seattle Times"

Some dismiss Feingold's move to censure Bush as a publicity gimmick, by the Democrat who is considered a frontrunner for the 2008 presidential race.

Regardless of Feingold's motives, President George W. Bush needs to be punished for trampling our constitutional rights, indeed a censure should be a prelude to an impeachment.

Bush is incapable of acknowledging let alone apologizing for his errors. The president needs to be censured as a way of demonstrating to the world that America is still a nation of laws and that no individual, not even the president, is above the law.

The Bible says "be sure your sin will find you out", Bush should be publicly reprimanded for the evil he did secretly.

I hope that Republicans will join Feingold and other Democrats in voting to censure Bush. This move to restore the integrity of our democracy should be a bipartisan effort.

A censure resolution, does not carry any punishments, in essence its a scolding. If anyone needs a good scolding it's George W. Bush, his arrogance and defiance of international norms deserves a severe scolding.

Bush has stained the ideals of our democracy, in a much more dangerous and pernicious way than Clinton did when he left his DNA on Monica's blue dress.

"Congress has to reassert our system of government, and the cleanest and the most efficient way to do that is to censure the president," Feingold said. Quote appears in "The Seattle Times."

To that I can only add a heartfelt Amen!
