All We Have To Fear Is Congress

Ken Hughes
Neither John McCain nor Barack Obama as president can move congress in any direction except the way they chose. The definition of separate but equal is totally meaningless to most congress persons these days. Congress is well on the way to establishing themselves as the superpower of American Politics. This couldn't have been more obvious than the recent decision voting down removing the restrictions of oil production in ANWAR to bring America closer to oil self reliance. Over 70% of the American people are in favor of opening up federal lands to oil exploration. After all it's the peoples land it doesn't belong to congress, either Democrats or Republicans. The peoples voice should [no must] be heard.

Rather than being scientifically provable global warming has become an advertising gimmick, once the advertisers got wind of the publics interest in Green it became one of those issues to good to pass up. Atmosphere pollution is something that should be part of the equation of the uses of carbon energy but it can't be our only concern, feeding the worlds population should be dominant. What good is a squeaky clean atmosphere if everyone starves from lack of food and there's no one left around to enjoy it.

The problem isn't that we are running out of carbon fuels, the problem is politics and interferences by those who wish to disrupt the natural flow of things. Harry Reid the Democratic Leader of the Senate said "coal kills us, oil kills us". He would prefer alcohol extracted from corn as a fuel source. Corn may be a renewable source for fuel but it in not a [reliable source] as we are seeing this year. Weather has more to do with the availability of alternative fuel sources than politicians can control. The technology in processing carbon fuels has advanced and will continue to advance rapidly. Manufactures realize they are in competition with the hypocrisy of politics. They are aware left unchecked congress can and undoubtedly will place restrictions in the way that are nearly impossible to conform with and still make an affordable product that is also reliable. Biofuels have yet to be tested, No one knows what the environmental impact will be in 10 to 20 years. What logic does tell us we don't have the resources to produce both food and fuel by using our farm land so indiscriminately.

For those who wish to blame the president for the conditions we find ourselves in today lets review a few facts...... In 20006 when Democrats took control of congress consumer confidence was at a 4 year high.,,,,,,Regular Gas sold for $2.25 per......Unemployment was at 4.4%...... Today consumer confidence sucks, regular gas is at $4.00 plus per gallon and unemployment is at 5.5% or more. What did the president do and if so why would he? The faltering economy is due to an antagonistic and obstructive congress intent of holding the American public hostage for their own political gains. Congress derives their power from solving problems. In order to solve problems first they must create them.

Paraphrasing Barack Obama] " We live in the greatest country the world has ever known. My friends I need your help to change it." Neither Barack Obama nor John McCain has indicated they would work with, or work to check an over zealous congress if either is elected president, as a matter of fact neither candidate has mentioned working with congress at all.

Congress makes laws, congress allocates funds, congress has the advice and consent clause in the constitution, congress can override a presidential veto, I ask you, who's the real power in Washington congress or the president ?

As many of us who have followed congress for the past two years can only wonder who does this congress represents, [if anyone?] Congress has been bringing down all the things this nation worked so hard to create and then congress has the assiduity to blame it all on George Bush. One example are the Bush tax cuts that congress voted to approve. A single person earning $30K received a tax cut of 47%. a married person earning $125K filing jointly received a tax cut of only 20% yet congress claims the tax cuts benefited the rich. This is only one example of how congress deceives the public.

Congress approved the war in Iraq and have threatened to cut funding for the war from the beginning yet they don't. Everything congress threatens to impeach Bush for has either been approved by or sanctioned by congress. All the lies attributed to Bush can be traced back the the Clinton administration. The problems within the United States and it's government is not the last president, this president or the next president. It's a congress lost in their own self indulgence, self importance and just plain arrogance.
