Prank Calls - Find out where they're calling from

Greg Wilson
Whether it is old jokes about running appliances or someone asking for Seymour Butts at three in the morning, prank calls can be more than annoying—they can be downright harassing! Luckily, you don't have to put up with it any longer than necessary. There are many internet resources that allow you to find out both the general and more specific location of a prank caller.

The first resource for those bothered by prank calls is to record the number. Once you know the number in question, you can begin to narrow down the location of the caller. One major indication of place can be the area code, or first three digits in a ten-digit phone number. This prefix serves as a routing number for the number and refers to a general geographical area. If you don't recognize the area code, chances are it is either a cell phone or the caller is from out of the immediate area.

To find out more about an area code, you can search online. A quick investigation should quickly reveal the general location of your caller. Of course, while you might get lucky and be receiving calls from an extremely populous and thus geographically small area code, it is more likely that the prefix is one assigned only to cell phones or that it covers so much area as to make you feel like you need more information. A reverse phone search can narrow down the location of a caller a bit further, providing details about the type of phone used, as well as the name and mailing address listed with that number.

Though reverse cell phone lookups often charge a small fee, they are able to access private directories, and thus can return even more information about those prank calls.

Now that you know more about the resources available to help you find out more about an unknown caller, and you are familiar with the idea of reverse phone searches and reverse cell phone lookups, you can put yourself back in control of your phone line. Take advantage of the information a reverse phone lookup offers, and do everything you can to protect yourself from prank calls.
