Schiavo Autopsy Reveals No Abuse
Mrs. Schiavo’s parents and supporters had clung to the hope that the autopsy would show their daughter was alive and that by the Florida courts allowing their son-in-law, Michael Schiavo, to remove the feeding tube from their daughter that it was an act of murder. Terry’s parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, and her husband have had a highly and often heated debate over whether it was Terry’s wish to remain on life support or to not be kept alive by artificial means. The courts in Florida have repeatedly ruled that they believed that it was Terry’s wish not to be kept alive, as her husband had claimed all along.
The autopsy revealed that Terry Schiavo was indeed in a persistent vegetative state. The Pinellas-Pasco County Medical Examiner, John Thogmartin, also noted that Terry Schiavo had no hope of recovering with the aid of therapy or medicine.
