WWE Night of Champions Pay Per View Creates Interesting Drama
By Dan Bristow
World Wrestling Entertainment put on the Night of Champions pay per view from the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas. There are several new champions. Mark Henry is the new ECW Champion. Kofi Kingston is the new Intercontinental Champion. But the biggest news is that Edge retained his World Championship, and HHH pinned John Cena to retain the WWE Title, so it appears that until they do something to rectify the situation, both big titles are on Smackdown. www.wrestlingnewsdesk.com covered the event live and the following real time results were posted:
In the dark match, Jeff Hardy pinned MVP with a swanton.
WWE Tag Team Titles: The Miz and John Morrison defeated Hornswoggle and Fit Finlay when Morrison pinned Hornswoggle to retain the titles.
US Title: Matt Hardy pinned Chavo Guerrero to retain the title.
ECW Title: Mark Henry is the new ECW Champion after Kane superplexed Show, but then Henry splashed on Kane and got the pin.
World Tag Team Titles: Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes are the new champions after Rhodes doublecrossed Bob Holly.
Intercontinental Title: Kofi Kingston pinned Chris Jericho after Shawn Michaels came out, and then superkicked Lance Cade at ringside. Jericho had Kingston in the Walls of Jericho and let go and knocked HBK off the apron, which set up Kofi hitting the move. After the match, Jericho punched Shawn in the eye, and Shawn sold it big time.
Womens Title: Mickie James pinned Katie Lea Burchill to retain the title.
World Title: Edge pinned Batista. Big finish. Batista had Edge beat with a Batista bomb when Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero pulled referee Mickey Henson out of the ring. Chavo Guerrero came in to referee. Batista press slammed Vickie Guerrero and threw her on Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, Chavo and Bam Neely over the top rope to the floor. Edge then nailed Batista with the title belt, and Chavo with his ref shirt counted the pin.
WWE Title: HHH pinned Jon Cena with the Pedigree. Both kicked out of each others finishes. HHH elbowed out of another FU attempt and hit the Pedigree for the win. This leaves Monday Night Raw without a major title holder, which is sure to be address this evening on the USA Network cablecast.
