John McCain vs. The Right Side Of The Issues
Green is nothing more than PC run a-muck. The environment is a concern but not the only concern. Along with saving the environment we must pay attention that we don't destroy mankind in the process.
John McCain can win the November election if he decides to represent the people and not special interests. John McCain must stop listening to the Washington Pundits and start communicating with the public if he has any hope of becoming president. McCain has two ears and only one mouth he can learn twice as much from listening than he can from talking. The politics of unkept promises isn't working any longer, this will be the last election where the public is force fed an ideology they know will cost them more than it will benefit them.
The new Iraqi government has played the Bush Administration like a cheap Wal*Mart violin The coalition troops won the war the first few weeks they were in Iraq. Politicians have consistently manipulated and lost the peace over the past 5 years. The war in Iraq isn't going to be an issue in the coming election, therefore McCain should find other targets to pursue. The only way he can do that is head his bus west and stop at every corner gas station in America. McCain needs to meet the real people of America not the professional campaigners who are only right half the time.
McCain needs to take a page from Harry Truman's 1948 campaigning strategy. When faced with a glib Ivy League opponent Thomas Dewey Harry Truman rented a train and crisscrossed America stopping in every small town and whistle stop along the tracks. Election eve Truman went to bed telling his staff not to disturb him. The following morning two things were clear, the Chicago Sun Times had declared Thomas Dewey the winner and the voters had declared Harry Truman the winner. Truman won that election because he went out to the voters asking them what they wanted from him, not by telling them what to expect from him. John McCain has the same opportunity available to him. Up to now both candidates have been mesmerizing their own captive audiences, from now on its crunch time. Now they have to face the real voters and they're not so easily persuaded as the party faithful.
If I had to pick the two issues that will dominate the November election it would be energy, opening up drilling in American oil fields and the proposed tax increases by Democratic candidates. The public as a whole isn't doing well enough to waste more billions of tax payer dollars on the non-archivers in this country. The public sees welfare checks going out to people who could replace the illegal workers doing menial jobs that never the less pay a wage if they had the incentive to work or [not to starve.] Being an American citizen only guarantees a person the right to archive according to his / her ability. It's not a free pass to a lifetime of government support. In order for compassion to be genuine it must be voluntary and not mandated by the government. There are no provisions in the constitution for government support for slackers.
It's inconceivable America is the only industrialized nation on earth that has a moratorium on one of the most crucial produce to it's survival. There is hardly a product we use that isn't in some way effected by oil. Gasoline is approximately 50% of a barrel of oil. The other 50% goes to petrochemicals industrial lubricants and thousands of other products. Without Gasoline contributing to the cost of oil production all other products would double or more in price. Global warming is a myth, air pollution is real. It can't be resolved by throwing the baby out with the bath water.
If we had a congress more interested in the publics interests than their own positions, incomes ans expense accounts they would look at the broader picture and stop the foolishness of dragging Corporate Executives before the public trying to lay blame on them rather than working things out like reasonable men. I'm sure there are good congress men and women who shutter at the thought of being identified with some of the congressional drama queens who have been around for decades. Congress has created the misconception president are to blame every time something goes wrong. We can change presidents until hell freezes over and it wont make a bit of difference as long as congress calls the shots.
In the end the American public is to blame for all the things that go wrong in our society. The founding fathers wrote documents that directed the style government we should have. If "WE the People " have allowed our elected officials to stray from the written word then who's to blame? Can we say any president has failed us given what we supply them to work with?
If the American people really want a government "By the People, Of the People, For the People." the the people must take an interest in whats going on and correct things every two years / four at the ballot box until the system is back on track. Know who your voting for and make sure they know why your voting.
