Choosing a plastic surgeon for your breast augmentation surgery can be nerve-wracking. Youīve heard the horror stories. So, you not only want to make sure that you receive beautiful results, but you want to make sure that you receive the best possible care. What can you do to ensure that your breast enlargement goes perfectly?
Education. First of all, review the reputation of the program where the surgeon studied. He or she should have five years of general surgery training and no less than two years of plastic surgery training. The surgeon should also be dedicated to fulfilling all continuing medical education requirements, including staying up to date with the latest techniques and technology.
Credentials. Your surgeon should be credentialed by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. In order to remain a member of these professional organizations, all surgeons must meet strict requirements on a regular basis. If your surgeon is not credentialed by all three of these societies, look elsewhere.
Experience. How long has your surgeon been in practice? Is your surgeon dedicated to breast enlargement surgery? For me, itīs a calling. I would recommend that you choose a surgeon who feels the same kind of passion and purpose about breast augmentation. It should be more than a surgical procedure, and your surgeon should take pride in helping patients feel better about themselves.
Donīt be shy about asking lots of questions. How many breast augmentation procedures has the surgeon completed? Are there patient testimonials available for you to read? Are you provided before and after photographs of other patients?
During your consultation, your surgeon should listen carefully to what you want to accomplish. While the surgeon should guide you about any unrealistic or risky expectations that you may have, you should always feel that the decision about your breast size and shape is yours to make.
