Is Global Warming Losing It's Luster

Ken Hughes
With the increases in oil prices global warming isn't nearly as important to most people as it had been in the past. Global warming has always been one of those Hollywood designer issues the media and politicians picked up on. The only true proponents of global warming were those people who wanted to be someone and weren't. Recently Green has become an advertising slogan and when that happens it loses all credibility. Most of the claims made by the proponents of global warming were so outlandish it's a wonder anyone would listen to them. Polar Bears can swim 100 miles with no effort and they are not becoming an endangered species. Penguins don't drown and they aren't starving, they can live out at sea for months at a time.

There's a historical 20 year cycle of climate adjustments. For the past two years this country has been at a peek that's beginning to come down. Climates changes can only be judged by regions, one computer statistic doesn't fit the whole world.

To say man made global warming causes hurricanes is preposterous. Nature causes hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and winter blizzards. Hurricane Katrina became a disaster for several reasons,...... a] the media made it one,...... b] the city fathers of New Orleans spent monies allocated by the government to fix the levees on other things,...... c] the Governor of Louisiana went into a shut down mode,.....d] President Bush warned the residence of New Orleans to get out of town three days before the hurricane hit. Katrina wasn't the worst hurricane to ever hit the gulf coast and it won't be the last. This spring the floods in several Midwestern states has exceeded the damage done by Katrina ten fold, Where's the outrage for those victims? Better yet when is the out pouring of financial help going to start coming to them?

We are a nation lead by news bites and spin, Any group who decides they want to make a statement and can get the medias attention can start a movement and create the facts to suite their purpose. They only need to make sure their press release gets to the media on a slow news day. The media never prints corrections they simply drop the story when it proves to be false. It's difficult to correct a negative once its out there for everyone to read.

The world is facing what could be a catastrophic situation and all because the myth of global warming caught on and has corrupted the minds of politicians and decision makers throughout the world. There's no solid evidence of all those carbon emissions out there is space. There's pollution in many parts of the world that can be cleaned up if the will is there. The United States has one of the cleanest atmospherics on th globe. In Los Angeles you can't see a Humming Bird 100 feet above you, in Montana you can count every star in the universe, which proves pollution is regional and not universal. There are any number of cities throughout the world where pollution is a real problem, none of them are in the Unites States. Not only have we cleaned up our own atmosphere we have developed technology to help clean up others atmospheres should they care to take advantage of it.

The high coat of oil can be attributed to several things, the United States Congress is unwilling to allow oil production to catchup with demand may be the biggest problem.

Oil is traded on the world financial markets and as long as demand exceeds production the cost will keep rising, thats the way financial markets work. The next problem is the government subsidies to alternative energy souses. Distribution of alternative fuel hasn't caught up to production. The E-85 pump at the station I buy gas at has cobwebs all over it. Then there is the problem of agriculture being diverted from food to energy creates a whole new set of problems. We are rapidly reaching a point where we must choose if we want to drive or eat.

The lack of sufficient oil production reaches much further than just our personal cars . It effects every aspect of our economy. Everything we touch has a relationship to oil. At one or more points everything moves by truck. Trucks are powered by diesel fuel, the current price is $4.75 a gallon. The average over the road truck get about 12 miles to a gallon. It can cost an over the road trucker as much as $ 2,500 dollars a week to stay in business. Guess who's going to pay that bill?

The only way America is going to become energy independent is to produce whats available now and worry about the alternative energy souses later as the technology becomes more readily available.

Let your congress men and women know the immediate opening of our oil reserves off shore and in ANWAR is to important to play politics with. We can easily have our own oil flowing within 18 to 36 months if the restriction are lifted. Its time congress listened to the general public and not the special interest groups.
