Since 9/11....

Judy Ramsook
The world and the US have not been the same since that fateful day of 9/11/2001. America and its allies are at war with Iraq.

Iran and Syria could be next and if some of us live long enough, there will soon come a day when all, if not most of the world’s moslems will be subdued and controlled by America and its allies.

Since 9/11 though, there are quite a few observations one can make. Observations of things that some persons thought would never come to any fruition. I have compiled a list of my own observations of some things that have been lost and gained these past few years. They are as follows:

In this post 9/11 world, if some one is not Caucasian, Hispanic or Black and have Middle Eastern features about them, and such a person happens to be in a predominantly Caucasian society and in a public setting, people will stop and stare at him or her.

As feelings of discomfort inhabit that person’s soul, at such an event, he or she wonders to himself, wow, they must think I’m moslem, but I’m not.

Some one does not have to do anything wrong for some one to call the police to arrest him or her for whatever reason.

All the person who is making the call to the police has to say is that he or she suspects said individual of being a terrorist, and voila, in no time at all, the person could find himself sitting in some police station interrogation room, too scared to think.

It can be observed that just about everywhere one goes, there are cameras or video surveillance gadgets that are monitoring one’s every move. Everywhere, be it your local grocery store, department store or other public place. Some one is watching, some where.

Air travel has probably never been safer, but look at the price the innocent have to pay. An air traveller has to not wear all the things that will cause certain detectors to go off at the airport.

Again, if some one is not not Moslem or Middle Eastern, but happen to look like one, he or she will be pulled out of the line, so they can further check him and his belongings.

Democracy and freedom are working ideas, but lately one can get the impression from looking at the news that they seem more like material possessions certain world leaders think it’s their right to dole out to deserving nations that have not had them.

The world will never be the same, for we now live in a time in which some persons might be suffering from mild cases of paranoia. Some persons are still afraid to board a plane or travel by train, for a few of those 9/11 victims were first time travellers as well.

As we sit by though and watch some rights and freedoms wittle away, some may also wonder, so, is this the heavy price the innocent must pay in order to secure a better world for all?
