Two Male Penguins, An Abandoned Egg And Two Clueless Parents
When a child reads this wonderful illustrated story about two male penguins who adopt an abandoned egg, they are likely to utter words like: wow, cute, sweet and cool.
Kids naturally gravitate to expressions of love and warmth, and it doesn't get any more heartwarming than a story about two penguins who adopt an abandoned egg.
The fact that the two penguins are male is of no concern to children, they are more interested in what the baby penguin will look like.
Only an adult who's had his innocence stripped away by homophobia would utter words like "sick" "twisted" and "not child-friendly" after reading this sweet tale.
"And Tango Makes Three", written by Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson, has been moved to the nonfiction section of two Missouri public library branches after two clueless parents complained that it advocated homosexuality.
This wonderful little book does not condone homosexuality, not that there would be anything wrong if it did, it does condone love, warmth and acceptance.
I'm glad that "And Tango Makes Three" has been moved to the adult section of the two libraries, because evidently some grownups need to learn about love an acceptance.
But there should also be copies of this book in the children's section, our kids are saturated with TV images of violence and intolerance, it would do them good to read such a lovely book.
