Cuba After The Castro Brothers
In The early 1950's Cuba began to change, it was still a paradise but paradise had taken on a for profit atmosphere. A number of political opportunists headed the government but in the background there was always General Fulgencio Batista calling the shots. Through the first half of the 20th century military dictators and revolutions were popular throughout Hispanic American Countries, Usually it didn't amount to much more than a 4th of July celebration with guns. Governments would change hands and the public would go back to business as usual.
Cuba gained independence from Spain during the Spanish American War. There's no doubt it was a contrived war to move Spain out of the American Continents. Cuba gained independence and with independence came the usual turmoil new governments suffer. The Americans were always there to prop up the next government. In the 1950's the American Mafia and American Industry began to dominate Cuba's economic structure. The American Dulles Brothers were heavily invested in United Fruit Company. They were also highly placed United States Government officials giving them both motive and opportunity to manipulate Cuban affairs. One Dulles brother John was in charge of US foreign affairs the other brother Allen was in charge of the CIA. These two agencies were in stiff competition for influence over Latin American Governments. What it did accomplish regardless who came out the successor the Americans were on the winning side.
In the early 1950's the Castro Brothers with the help of Che Guevara began planning the overthrow of the Batista government. They all meet in Mexico where they were in touch with KGB agents of the old Soviet Union. The Soviets were sympathetic with the cause but they were reluctant to get involved knowing how passionate the Americans were about their prized Monroe Doctrine that prohibited European influence in the Americas. As I said before Latin revolutions were traditionally noisy but not necessarily bloody. This Cuban revolution would be like no other, it would be both silent and bloody. Che Guevara was a murdering psychopath, Raul Castro was an uneducated follower, Fidel Castro was an educated opportunist without a conscience. [The Castro Brothers were the illegitimate sons of wealthy planter, they were in their teens before they were accepted in their fathers family.] Creating a group who didn't show compassion for anyone if it meant a distraction from their goal of taking control of first Cuba and eventually all of Latin America. I can a-test to the fact the CIA supplied the rebels with arms. It was one more example of America being on both sides of an issue.
It was no accident Che Guevara was killed by the Bolivian Army after the Castro successes in Cuba. Guevara was an unguided missal waiting to explode.
Now the Castro brothers are hanging ten over the abyss. The current conversation is how many of the Cubans who came to Florida and elsewhere would return when Cuba opens up. Many of the elderly would like to go back and claim what they had taken from them. That couldn't happen 50 years have past and much of what was isn't anymore. Much of what was Cuba's charm, handmade cigars, tropical fruits, sugar harvests and the charm of the Cuba's hosting tourists has all disappeared or servilely impaired. When Cuba does open up modernization and foreign investment will make it look exactly like any resort city in America. The Cuban's themselves have changed, they don't relate to the Americanized Cuban's.
El Domino Juegos y Coffee breaks are for Los Antiguos, Those times are more enjoyable in Hialeah with memories than today's Havana in reality. Cuba today would not be the same as the Cuba of the 1940's & 50's.
For the Fernandez family, keep the old dreams and traditions alive that's about all the Castro Brother will have left us of the Cuban paradise that was. Bueno Suerte Amegos
