Why Lobbyists are Lawyers

Ken Hughes
There was a time when politicians knew more about how the government bureaucracy worked than just how to get re-elected. Congress has encroached into every phase of American life and the economy, many times unjustly and with dire consequences, they've exceeded their constitutional authority. The have become addicted to the outside advise of Lawyers in fear of stumbling. Through necessity industry and organizations have turned to advocacy groups represented by the legal profession if they wanted their voices to be heard The average citizen and small organization have no way of addressing congress other than through lobbyist. Congress created the position of Lobbyist for two reasons...;...a] to shield them from the public interfering with their daily duties and ......b] to give defeated congressmen a job and a reason to remain in Washington.

There are over 33 thousand independent lobbyists working in Washington. They not only lobby congress they also lobby every department of government. They have in fact replaced the Media as the fourth estate. Lobbyists write legislation for congress, In many cases they write congress man and womens speeches for them It's from this pool of unofficial advisors many of the governments top bureaucrats are chosen, it's to this pool many return. Many of Washington's top lobbyists are former congressmen and the spouses of current congress men and women. Contrary to what we are made to believe lobbying is a respected profession in our nations capital. The smokescreen of doubt is cast over them so the general public doesn't know how influential these private citizens are in the daily functions of our elective government.

Lobbyists represent what is commonly known as special interests. Special Interests are something else that falls under the smokescreen of questionable behavior. By their vary nature special interests are not evil. They are the only connection the general public, organizations and small businesses have with their elected officials Lobbyists are the publics revolutionary soldiers.

In many countries grieved citizens address their government officials with guns bombs and street riots. In America lobbyists representing special interest replace the need for revolution. Another name for special interests are advocacy groups, people who take their time and spend their efforts representing those who can neither spare the time nor the effort representing themselves. Is lobbying a for profit enterprise, yes everyone has the right to be paid for their services.

In America only the kooks march in the streets banging the drums of discontent.

We see on the news nearly every evening where some group somewhere is blocking the streets of a city in another part of the world, trying to get their government officials to listen to their grievances. Most of the time the protesters are meet with violent responses by government authorities. What's the difference between water boarding to gain crucial information and water cannons to control a rowdy crowd? Each has a tendency to effect the mental stability of the victim, [ergo] both can be considered torture if one is so inclined to think that way. We don't go to these extremes in America, we let our lawyers [Lobbyists] do the talking for us.

The things wrong with America aren't what we are being told, it's who, why, what and how we're being told. Most of the doom and gloom presidential candidates are preaching are things that haven't changes in the past and won't change in the future and probably don't need changing. Politicians fear their message isn't strong enough to sway the voters in their direction, they turn to instilling fear of both their opponent and Americas future. This nation has survived dozens of presidential candidate who swore they were the only salvation for country. Look we're still here and growing stronger with each election in spite of who's president and who goes to congress

A word of wisdom for our presidential candidates, you aren't going to change much if elected. The American Government is like a band of cats, cats can only be directed where cats want to go. Government traditions over the years have set policy in stone and no man / woman with only 4 or 8 years to complete his or her agenda is going to have any significant influence on how the bureaucracy functions. It is what it is and isn't likely to change for a short timer.

The only problem with America is understanding, education and civility. [ie] We don't understand our government, we aren't that concerned with learning about it and anyone who doesn't like my attitude can kiss my a**. Those who choose to watch NASCAR over a presidential debates are far to comfortable to be concerned with what his or her government is about, that could change in th future. Freedom and security have a price each person must eventually contribute to.

A word of wisdom to the voters. Don't expect more from the next president than you got from the last. It's congress and the media who tell you what to think, who presents you with the supposed facts and that isn't about to change in this election or any elections in the near future.
