Searching for the dream:Page 11

Ruben, my senior caught my eye. He was very cute and had a very soft face. He was from Mizoram state and was very different from the local guys. I used to stare at him whenever I got a chance. His class was on the second floor and mine was in third floor, so whenever I used to go to the Chemistry lab (which was in ground floor) I used to go through the door way in front of his class so that I could see him. While I was doing this Roshana, always busy with studies, had no idea about this. But when she found out she was mad at me. She was angry that I was wasting my time pursuing some guy with whom I have nothing in common and I was betraying my parents' confidence and trust in me.

I pretended to listen but would not care about it. It was not that I didn’t care about my parents and what they were doing to give me this opportunity which no one else in family has ever had. I cared about that but then I thought me having a crush has n9othing to do betraying their trust. So I went on with pursuing Ruben. Unfortunately he had a girlfriend and I had to accept my defeat silently.I never managed to even talk to him, just said good bye from distance in silence.

Valentine's Day was coming closer, I had no plans. Very few students were excited about it, they all thought that it was some foreign thing and being Indiana they did not want to participate in it. There was a guy in my class Navin, very brilliant and talented. He was the one who always had answers to any question teacher asked in the class to the tough assignments. Some days before Feb 14, I could see that he was trying to get closer to me, like trying to talk to me or asking about me to my friends. On the day I found out why, he gave me a card asking if he could be my Valentine.

I was all surprised. At first I thought of saying no, I had no interest in him. He was not good looking, the only thing he had on his side was his brilliance. Then I thought what the hell, let me enjoy. So I said yes. When I told Roshana that I said yes, she nearly fainted. She did not talk to me for weeks on this but after wards helped me in every way to get it going with Navin.

Being involved in a relationship while living in St Mary’s hostel was like going through hell. The school run by Orthodox Christians viewed teenage love like a sin. And love between a Hindu girl and Christian guy was totally no thing. My hostel warden used to tear me like some criminal when she found out my relation with Navin. But all hell broke loose when the principal found out.Navin was his cousin, and she could not accept his cousin being poisoned by a non-believer. So he called my parents to Kerala to talk to them about my miss deeds and threatened to cut off my name from final exam list if I don’t stop whatever is going on between me and Navin.

When I saw my dad waiting for me in Principal's room, listening to the entire principal had to say about his wild daughter and the pain I saw in his face, I felt like shooting the Principal. Seriously I was MAD. But then nothing happened, I just stood their and accepted everything he said, so did my dad. Then my dad went back home and I had to start the second phase my relationship with Navin which had to begin with a break up and end with a good bye.
