A new cell phone service in Vancouver, BC is helping commuters avoid traffic jams and business owners monitor their property 24/7.

More and more of us city dwellers encounter daily traffic jams to and from work. Time spent crawling on the road is eating into productivity time as well as valuable time that could be spent with family and friends. A Vancouver-based software company, Inception Software, has created a solution to help commuters avoid the worst traffic jams.

In collaboration with the City of Vancouver’s Road-Ahead Program, the company has created a free mobile service that provides cell phone users access to about 30 traffic cameras – more are to be added as the network of cameras expands. The traffic camera images are displayed on any data-enabled cell phone by simply opening up the phone browser and going to celvu.com/cam.

In addition to this free service, CelVu is also offered as a commercial system for business owners and property managers to help them monitor their property using their cell phone. The service allows them to view live images on their cell phones transmitted direct from the security cameras monitored in and around their property.

The main problem with commercial alarms is that most of the time they are false ones,” says Chris Scholefield, President of Inception Software. “Generally, the police won’t respond to commercial property alarms unless they have been validated. By giving owners access to round the clock surveillance via their cell phones, they are now in control of the situation and can act accordingly.”

Delivered as a complete package, CelVu can be viewed in several ways:

CelVu Plus is a smart phone application allowing live streaming video. CelVu Plus has been tested on the Blackberry™, Treo™, Pocket PC™ and Symbian OS™ phones.

CelVu Basic is a phone browser viewer allowing the same live and

recorded images to be viewed anytime and anywhere. It is optimized to work with any Internet enabled cell phone.

CelVu Web is an Internet based service allowing live video to be viewed. The user can also view recorded images from the past week.

"I sleep better at night knowing that I can see exactly what is happening at the office from my home PC or mobile phone" said Brian Simmers, CFO of Cityfone Telecommunications Inc. Bob Harper, Managing Director of Elissa Cristall Gallery agreed. "Knowing we could quickly look and see what was happening before we even started out towards the gallery is a big, big comfort factor. It is easy to get on to the system and it is easy to switch from camera to camera."
