How to Get Rid of Moles
To locate mole tunnels in frequent use, clear away a mound of soil and probe for the opening usually a short passage that leads down a few inches to the main tunnel. Place Victor mole traps or Talparid Mole Bait in this tunnel.
The best way I have found to get rid of moles is to plant a plant called "skunk lilies" in your yard. I believe there is another name, a proper one, but I don't know what it is right now. My mom planted them in the four corners of her yard and has never had a problem with moles and any other burrowing animal since. The one easily noticeable factor of these lilies is that the bulb smells just like a skunk. The flowers on the ones we have are orange and do resemble lilies, just not the prettiest of them.
When you see the old trail being expanded or a new trail being formed, silently inspect the end of the trail for a slight movement of the grass as the mole works at the end of the trail.
Stab the shovel about an inch behind the working area. This action will block the mole from escaping back down the trail.
There are a lot of people who say that flooding moles out of their tunnels doesn´t work, and they might be right about a particularly persistent mole. The key to the flooding method is to find a straight active tunnel amidst a cluster of molehills. Simply insert the hose into the tunnel, wait until there is a sufficient amount of flooding, and see if you can´t catch the little bugger when he tries to escape.
Scavenge your property and locate as many tunnels and holes as you can, then find out which tunnels the mole uses frequently by destroying part of the tunnel and waiting to see if the mole fixes it. If he does, then you know this is a tunnel he likes. You can use this to your advantage by setting a trap in this tunnel. You don´t need a trap to catch a mole though. Many times you will see him traveling right under the surface of the ground and you can catch him with two shovels, pitching one in the front and one behind.
Tunnel Traps. Another way to solve your mole problem is to place live animal traps in the mole's tunnels. Live mole traps are easy to create. Dig into a mole tunnel until you can place a coffee can or large jar into the tunnel. The container should be level with the tunnel's floor. Cover the tunnel to keep sunlight out. Then check the trap once or twice daily. After catching a mole, you can release it far away from your home. A small test can be used to determine if a mole is still using a tunnel.
