A 5.5 magnitude earthquake shook most of the area around Palm Springs, California early Sunday.

The moderate quake was centered about 20 miles south of Palm Springs, according to the earliest reports from the U.S. Geological Survey.

There were no reports of injuries or damage, authorities are reporting. The quake may have rattled more nerves than any homes or businesses. The quake was said to have lasted for only six to seven seconds.

The quake was reportedly felt as far west as Los Angeles and as far south as San Diego.
