American Idol Scott Savol Shares Chicken Soup

Cheryl C. Malandrinos
Today we continue our interviews with the contributors to Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul as we talk with Scott Savol. Scott made it to the Top 5 in Season 4 on American Idol and has a brand new single "Donīt Rush" (featuring Līil G from Silk), which is available at iTUNES.

Thanks for joining us today, Scott. Itīs great to have you with us.

Letīs get started by finding out a bit about you. Where did you grow up? What is it you loved best about your hometown?

I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. I loved the fact that it was the city. Not the quiet, laid back country (that I enjoy now in Tennessee).

In one of your TV interviews you said that you came from an average American family. Do you feel thatīs why people relate to you and to your music?

I do. When people feel that they have something in common with you, it helps them to relate to you better, on a level where they feel that you understand them.

You didnīt tell anybody that you were going to audition for American Idol. What did you tell them after you knew you made the cut?

Couldnīt tell anyone anything until the live show happened. Of course I could tell them that I made it to the Hollywood round, but past that, it had to be kept a secret.

Some would have considered you a long shot to make it into the Top 24 during Season 4, but you made it to the Top 5. Why do you think you were so popular with the fans?

I think it may have been the fact that Simon was giving me a raw deal. But hey, Simon is good at what he does, but everyone isnīt always right. Thank God.

What was the best part of your American Idol experience?

Being able to do what I am passionate about, and getting to do it in a way that I could share it with the world.

Do you currently pursue your music career full-time?

I am pursuing music, yes, but I am now, also, pursuing an acting career as well.

Letīs talk about Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul. How did you get involved with this project?

I believe that they contacted my mother, and asked if I was interested in submitting a story. Chicken Soup for the Soul is one of, if not, the biggest book series known to man. Why would I not want to be a part of that? Any opportunity that God gives me to share my story, I am all for it.

Why was the story you shared in this book important to you?

It told of how I gained acceptance, from my father, by being my own man, and pursuing a dream that I had. A dream that I refused to let anyone tell me I couldnīt accomplish.

Are you involved in any of the promotions for Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul?

I did a promotion for the book in February, at Borderīs books, in Nashville, TN.

Whatīs up next for you? Should fans be looking forward to a new release in the future?

We are currently working on a project, but itīs funny that God always steps in and changes the direction. So far, with this one, He hasnīt. Amen

Is there anything you would like to add?

Just, as always, to tell everyone that supported me, and the rest of the contestants on the show, that we love and appreciate each and every one of you. God Bless.

Thanks for joining us today, Scott. Best of luck in the future. I hope youīll check in with us again soon.
