Are Republicans Coming Up Short In 2008

Ken Hughes
Iīm sure John McCain is a nice man and loves his country. But does he have what itīs going to take to convince Republicans across this country he has what it takes to turn the selling out the conservative party principles by Republican Presidents and Congressmen after Ronald Reagan dedicated so much efforts to itīs creation? Todayīs Republican Party is not the party of Goldwater or Reagan. The conservative principles established by the Republican Party have disappeared and John McCain has been a party to it with his by partisan approach that hadnīt been returned

George Bush for all his qualities of management was not the politician he should have been. He was unable or unwilling to lead [and or] control congress and guide them along a path of conservatism. He allowed congress to spend money like it was an inheritance from a deceased Uncle by never using his veto powers. George Bush came from the business world where decisions are made on a basis of sound physical policy, into the world of politics where decisions are made for political reasons even when they donīt make sense, even when the cost is never justified by the benefits if any.

George Bush came from a culture where men are men and stand for something other than just keeping their jobs even at the cost of not doing their jobs. Where though decisions are made by individuals not by committees upon committees and then questioned. If all the un-necessary approvals were taken out of government decision making Washington DC wouldnīt be much larger than Mayberry USA.

Thereīs an inherent fear among government politicians and bureaucrats of making a mistake and not having anyone to blame it on, itīs a formula for indecisiveness personified.

In a perfect world no individual would be allowed to serve in any government position longer than ten years. Not just elected officials but anyone even those who cut the grass and sweep the floors of government buildings. Upon completion of government service there would be no after benefits such as retirement, health care, bonuses etc. This may sound harsh on the surface, it isnīt.

Government employment and or elected service would attract young men and women out of University with a clean prospective on the issues. They would not have had the opportunity for form alliances with outside causes. Of course this would require cleaning the socialist professors out of higher education but that could be done by a test requiring any teacher to swear allegiance to the United States or losing their credentials. Would these practices be Medieval, not really the opportunity to open individual centers to speared anti-Americanism would still be available to anyone with strong enough beliefs. Anti-Americanism wouldnīt be paid for by the taxpaying public or tax exempt grants from wealthy benefactors.

Itīs not the money the Washingtonians [politicians and bureaucrats] waste as it is the mentality with which they waste it. I canīt remember the last time an elected official on the national level came to my community and ask what can we do for you, as opposed to hearing from the national media what politicians claim the public is clamoring for. The real concerns of the public are that pot holes be repaired, bridges that donīt fall down, secure boarders and for politicians to keep their dammed hands out of our pockets. If less were taken from us we could better afford private health care and other things the government has no business involving itīs self in.

The constitution limits the federal government to only those activities set down in the document. Everything else is a States Rights or the right of the individual, try convincing the Supreme Court or any court of that. I have no doubt the founding fathers stopped looking down watching their experiment dissolve into God only knows what, if God even recognizes what the American people were given and over the decades have wasted I have no doubt he / she would be looking in disgust at whatīs transpired.

The construction doesnīt require government agencies spoon feed any part of the public. As matter of fact welfare in any form is prohibited by statue. Our problem is we arenīt paying attention to what was intended to be a "Government of the People, by the People, for the People." In other words no one reads the constitution. The very foundation of our democracy is for the public to know what should be and what shouldnīt be. If Benjamin Franklin were around today heīd be kicking some ASS and heīd start with education or the lack of it.

Itīs the responsibility of those we elect to national office to follow the guide lines set forth in the constitution and not find ways to circumvent itīs meaning in the name of ones personal aggrandizement.
