Mothers Can Be Negatively Affected by Infidelity in 3 Important Ways

Ruth Houston
With Motherīs Day so close, itīs a sobering thought at hand, but infidelity expert Ruth Houston warns that infidelity can negatively affect mothers in three important ways. Houston, author of Is He Cheating on You? – 829 Telltale Signs and founder of www.InfidelityAdvice.com, says, "Infidelity can affect mothers psychologically, physically and financially."

1. Psychologically

"If a womanīs husband is cheating on her, it can lead to psychological issues which can negatively impact the way she interacts with her children", says infidelity expert, Ruth Houston. "It can be a challenge for a woman to be a good mother while trying to work through the issues of her husbandīs affair. Under the stress of infidelity, many mothers become so emotionally distraught that they are unable to give their children the care and attention they need." Houston warns that infidelity in a marriage can also cause psychological problems in children such as anxiety, depression, or eating disorders, with which a mother, as the primary caregiver, will have to cope.

2. Physically

Infidelity can pose a serious health threat to a mother. Says Houston, "If a cheating husband engages in unprotected sex, he puts the mother of his children at risk for HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDīs). If a motherīs health deteriorates, she will be unable to care for her children. If sheīs an expectant mother, STDīs can jeopardize the health of her unborn child. Some STDīs, like chlamydia can even affect a womanīs ability to become a mother, by rendering her incapable of having children."

3. Financially

If infidelity escalates to the point of separation or divorce, it could affect a motherīs ability to financially provide for her child – especially if her husband refuses to meet financial obligations such as alimony or child support. Houston says, "Without the fatherīs income, a mother may be unable to support her children in the manner to which she has been accustomed. She may even have to work outside the home, or take second job, which will severely limit the amount of time the mother is able to spend with her children. An unexpected divorce or separation can put an unsuspecting wife and mother in a serious financial bind when it comes to living arrangements, health care, and the childrenīs education.

Donīt Be the Last to Know

"Ignorance is NOT bliss when it comes to infidelity and extramarital affairs," warns Houston. A mother who has a cheating husband cannot afford to be the last one to know. For the sake of her children, and in order to protect herself legally, financially, sexually, and emotionally, a mother needs to find out about the existence of an extramarital affair before itīs too late. This means she should be able to spot the early warning signs of an affair, as well as the subtle signs of an affair already in progress before it reaches the point of no return."
