FLDS Raid is a Shameful Assault on Freedom

Bill Falzett III
We have a situation in Texas, in which it appears Child Protective Services obtained a warrant to authorize heavily armed officers to enter the homes of members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, to sieze some 400 children on the basis of accusations made by a prank phone caller. Breast-feeding mothers have been separated from their infants, and the judge who is now placing the children in foster care across the state, has referred to the situation as a cattle call. Today when I went to look at the morning news, I was greeted by the images of a distraught FLDS mother waiving goodbye to her children. I am having difficulty putting into words how I feel about this, but I think it is best described as livid. I am no supporter of fundamentalist religions, polygamy or child abuse, but I am a supporter of the freedom, liberty and due process guaranteed in our constitution. When we allow our government to deprive a single citizen of his civil rights, we tacitly approve of a regime in which none of us are safe in our homes. If you believe in freedom, liberty and civil rights as guaranteed in the constitution, please consider taking a moment to visit the website of your elected officials to formally express outrage and to demand relief for these families:
