Drew Peterson Is Starting to Sweat

As temperatures climb with the promise of spring, the heat is also turning up in Bolingbrook. The winter weather has cleared and volunteers amassed, continuing the search for the young mother, Stacy Peterson, who has been missing now almost six months. New coordinated training efforts provide efficient training for volunteers, teaching them more effective search methods to utilize in the areas where Stacy´s body might be located. With renewed vigor, and supported by the tireless efforts of Stacy´s sister, Cassandra Cales, and Stacy´s friend, Roy Taylor, the volunteers are determined in their quest, and revisiting ideas they had before that maybe Stacy is closer than previously thought.

This grueling task of looking for a loved one presumed dead has been compounded by the carnival-like atmosphere frequently proffered by Drew Peterson and his side-kick attorney, Joel Brodsky. Often times their antics attempted to portray Stacy´s grieving family and the concerned citizens of Bolingbrook as a joke while they spent countless hours looking for the missing woman. Those efforts had but one obvious outcome: to backfire. And, with the heat starting to rise now, Drew must be starting to feel a bit warm.

Drew Peterson has not had a very successful week.

First, as a guest on CNN´s "Larry King, Live", his attempt to explain his offbeat and inappropriate humor to the masses (again…) fell with a resounding thud. The continuing protests from Drew and his wannabe famous attorney, Joel, (yawn) make them a laughable pair. The same old stuff from the same old stuffed shirts. One can only believe Larry King was so desperate for something other than the political primaries, that he reached deep into the dung heap to pull Drew Peterson out again. Larry should have known better: unless Drew confessed, he really had nothing to say except the same spew he and Joel have regurgitated time and again.

Second, a Will county judge opened the door for Kathleen Savio´s family to file a wrongful death suit against Drew Peterson. Judge Carmen Goodman decided the second Savio autopsy depicting murder instead of accidental drowning was enough to reopen the estate, thereby removing Drew´s uncle as the executor of Kathleen´s estate--which never made sense anyway--and the task was moved into the hands of the Savio family, where it should have been all along.

With the estate reopened, there will suddenly be a lot of explaining for Drew to do. Like, where is all the money? Peterson received 1 million dollars from a life insurance policy supposedly in the Savio children´s names. Then there was the sale of the bar, the house and some other policies, making the total in excess of 1.6 million dollars. What was the $250,000 funneled to his son, Stephen, for then? And where is the rest of it? Oh, that´s right. Some of it is in Brodsky´s pocket, for Drew´s handling fee during Stacy's disappearance. Perhaps Drew should request a refund. Luckily, the Savio family has retained John Kelly, the attorney for Nicole Simpson´s family in their wrongful death suit against OJ Simpson. Good choice.

Third, Peterson´s confiscated firearms will not go to his son, Stephen, who is also a police officer. A wise move in light of the fact that Stephen now shows a propensity of not exactly walking the straight and narrow himself. The apple does not fall far from the tree. Stephen has his own pot of hot water to steep in for awhile. The Oak Brook Police Department suspended him for 8 days without pay as punishment for testifying before a grand jury in uniform and using a marked squad car to get to his date with the grand jury regarding Stacy Peterson´s disappearance. He brought notoriety and shame upon the department and he had to pay for that transgression.

This was not his first indiscretion, having received suspension before in 2007 for rudeness directed toward a citizen. He´s well on his way to follow in his father´s footsteps--Drew must be proud. At least his dad made it almost thirty years; Stephen´s tenure on the force is a meager two and a half years. The judge made a good call. One can only hope that Stephen´s wife is taking notes and paying attention.

Finally, the coup de grace may rest in the hands of Illinois State Representatives. A bill passed unanimously in the Illinois Senate this week allowing a judge to uniquely decide whether or not hearsay evidence will be admissible if a defendant is found to have "contributed to the disappearance of a witness through illegal means", according to the Chicago Tribune. The Hearsay Bill is backed by State Attorney, James Glasgow, who has been investigating the disappearance of Stacy Peterson and the now murder of Kathleen Savio. Brodsky, as usual, reacted predictably, like the world is persecuting Peterson by trying to change the rules in order to convict him.

No matter how this plays out, no one should be surprised if there is never a confession. Drew Peterson has done nothing wrong, you see. Brodsky will tell you Drew is merely a victim of some unfortunate circumstance, some bad publicity and he reacted with some questionable behavior because of stress. No smoking gun nor blue barrel has been found. There is no blood; there is no body.

Like an annoying splinter, however, the truth festers over time until it can no longer be ignored. Circumstantial evidence is everywhere and seems to be slowly multiplying like a mutant bacteria. Truth is growing in the agar of deception Drew tried to create. He can no longer manipulate the scenario and he has lost control, the sociopath´s worst nightmare. All he can do now is repeat the same mantra over and over, in the wild sociopathic attempt to maintain his freedom.. But, soon that will not be enough and Peterson will have to make up some new answers for very tough questions. Unable to keep his mouth shut and his mug out of the media, he will do us the favor of hanging himself--with or without a body.

Yes, it is getting hot for Drew Peterson. And he has only just begun to sweat.
