Addicted To Love, Addicted To Lost
In fact some of those songs we were exposed to then were so melodic that they lingered a while in one's mind long after the song had been played.
Furthermore, if some one has not heard a certain one of those infectious songs in a while and then he or she does happen to hear it, sometimes that person may find himself letting out a chuckle or two as he or she recalls how happy the song made him or her feel in the 80s when he was listening to it on the radio.
One such song that does come to mind is the Robert Palmer hit Addicted To Love. I had forgotten all about the song until that Super Bowl Sunday a few weeks ago. I thought I would tune in to the show just out of interest, and that’s when it was heard, during one of the commercial breaks.
I have to admit that at the time, I was doing a bit of multitasking. I was surfing the internet, doing some writing and once in a while I would lift my head to see what was taking place on the television before me.
Upon hearing the familiar infectious beat of the Robert Palmer hit, I stopped what I was doing and looked at the television. Did they suddenly decide to show the music video on Super Bowl Sunday? Pretty soon, it all became clear.
For, on Super Bowl Sunday it turned out that it was an ad for the ABC hit series Lost. Robert Palmer’s hit, Addicted To Love had turned into Addicted To Lost. How innovative, I thought and appropriate, you know, Addicted To Love, Addicted To Lost.
It was refreshing to hear the song once again. So refreshing that I at once started searching through my stack of cds for the Robert Palmer one. Of course when I first saw the music video for the song, Addicted To Love, I frowned upon the way women were used for the music video.
Those of you who have seen the music video, have seen them, the women. They are the ones who all look and are dressed alike in the video, all of whom are playing guitars too, or it looked as if they were playing guitars anyway. It also looked sort of demeaning to women.
Although he is no longer with us, for those of you who are unaware, he, Robert Palmer died back in 2003 of a heart attack. I would like to thank the late Robert Palmer for giving the music lovers of the world such a catchy song. Controversial music video or not, it’s still a great song.
