We are still at war against Bin Laden.

M. Orhan Tarhan
Following the destruction of the twin Trade Towers in New York by the Arabs who are accepting the distorted Bin Laden version of Islam, the United States responded correctly and sent military forces to Afghanistan to defeat the Taliban which had sponsored the attacks. The Taliban was defeated with the help of the Northern Alliance forces. In stead of finishing that war and fully eradicating our enemy, the Taliban, the Bush administration has made the big mistake of continuing that war with its little finger and concentrating the massive forces of the U.S. on Iraq, that had absolutely nothing to do with our war against the Taliban and Osama bin Laden.

We know now that many reasons were advanced for the War on Iraq, all of them turned out to be not true. The American people have just being fooled. Iraq cost us over $600 billion, over 4000 dead, 26,000 wounded, 25 % of the rest having severe mental problems, a devalued dollar and enough debt for our great grand children to pay. No wonder that the main aim of the Democrats in the November election is to terminate the Iraq War.

The War in Afghanistan is being run by a small contingent of American troops and by NATO troops. I understand that the Taliban has become stronger and that NATO is not winning that war. That, we cannot afford. The War against the Taliban must be won clearly and completely. Recently Vice President Chaney went to Turkey and asked the religious government that his administration is supporting, to send money and troops to Afghanistan and Mr. Erdogan refused. Why would he refuse? Because his real unspoken allies are the Islamist forces of the Taliban and he would not fight against them. This should give a pause to the Bush Administration on what kind of government they are supporting against the secular forces of Turkey. I am sure that a Laic Turkish government would send both troops and money to defeat the Islamist scourge, where ever it is.

I believe that the Bush Administration is making a colossal mistake in supporting the religious AKP in Turkey. AKP wants to convert the Laic and Western Turkey to an Islamist country. That must be stopped now, or we will be very sorry later on.

In the rest of the World the Bin Laden forces are successfully advancing their cause to eventually dominate the World. They have a long range plan. They completed that in Algeria. They are working hard on Europe and European are responding very stupidly.. The Islamists calculate that in 50 years or so the Christian population of Europe will have shrunk and the expanding present Muslim population of 15 million will soon be exceeding that of the Christian people, so they soon will have a slight majority and will do anything they want. They hope, they will make the Europeans accept the Sharia. Well, if Europe does not want to live by the Sharia in fifty years, they should take their proper measures right now.

The right response to them should be that any one of any religion can live and work in Europe, as long as they obey European laws. They should not be allowed to Islamize Europe. The Archbishop of Canterbury must be full of beans in stating that the Sharia must eventually be made part of British Law. He is helping the Islamization of Europe. Shame on him!

In Turkey, that is 99 % Muslim, Ataturk passed laws that made life the same as in Europe. Religion has been limited to the relation of citizens with their God. Turkey became laic, i.e Islam was completely removed from the relations of people with other people and from people with the state. The present AKP party wants that reversed and has unfortunately convinced quite a few people. Europe and America should take Ataturk´s solution as a guide in solving their problems with the Islamist minority. We have our own laws here and in Europe. An Islamist can live here if he does not commit polygamy, as Islam permits, and does not break other laws. He cannot be married or divorced according to Islamic law. He must follow our local laws.

Our good friend Ali F. Sevin recently warned the West as follows:

"It is about time somebody told like it is. Western Civilization must wake up from its slumber to face the Islamo-Fashists. All who cherish liberty must resist the tendency to be "politically correct" and accommodate demands for special treatment of Muslims, such as providing special male-free hours in the Harvard University gym for female Muslim students." In a link of this text there was the case of a Muslim student complaining that he had no place to wash his feet near the university. At public cost they built him such a place. That was absolutely unnecessary even from Islam´s view point. Because every Muslim must pray five times a day, except at time of war and at time of work. Every one must wash his face and his feet before praying. At the University, that student would have been at work and was absolved from the need to pray. Thus, he did not need a place to wash his feet. He did it just to irritate the people and they swallowed it. Requiring the Muslims to live like everyone else according to our laws is not a lack of religious freedom. For example, on the subject of participating in classes in high school or at the university with a head scarf, the Court of Human Rights of Europe has banned it and it is a correct decision. On the same subject, the AKP party recently changed the Turkish constitution to permit the wearing of head scarves in Universities. They defended the head scarf issue as a freedom issue: the Muslim students should have the freedom to wear head scarves so that they can attend university courses. If that argument is accepted, there is no serious obstacle in accepting for example the freedom of having up to four wives, and that probably will follow.

We are waging war against the Taliban not only because they are guilty of destroying the twin towers, but we want to destroy the mentality that everybody must live according to their understanding of Islam. In this respect, the War in Afghanistan is a true war for freedom. Unlike the Iraq war, that war must be clearly and completely won or we will be no longer free.
