Clubface angle at impact is the # 1 factor in the direction your shot goes. The sense of timing of squaring the clubface isnīt natural in golf (and what is?) and needs to be developed through drills and practice. Toe-up to Toe-up is a drill that gives you a feel for both how much the face should rotate and when. I like to have my studentīs think of the clubface like a tennis racket or ping pong paddle. This image helps make the clubface seem bigger and creates more awareness.

Drill: the best way to do the drill is with a half swing. The toe of the club points up at hip high of the backswing and it points toe up again at hip high on the follow through. This is in contrast to the face pointing to the sky or the ground at either spot which would be excessive. As part of the drill, mix in some face pointed left hooks and some face pointed right slices. The more contrast you give your brain the more it can fine tune the feeling. Practice and rehearse this simple, effective drill and watch your shots start to go straighter.
