Why Madison NJ Real Estate?

Madison New Jersey is one of the most vibrant college cities in New England. Its convenient location along the Midtown Direct train line makes it the perfect place to call home. Students, university faculty and New York City professionals all enjoy the many charms Madison offers its residents.

Urban commuters need to have an escape or retreat from the hectic downtown life, yet stay close to public transportation. Madison's proximity to the NJ Midtown Direct train line makes it easy to leave the chaos of New York City behind at the end of every work day. Also avoid driving in rush hour traffic.

Madison is located in Morris County and encompasses roughly four square miles. According to the 2000 census, the population in Madison is approximately 16,500 people. Despite its relatively small size, Madison offers excellent shopping. It has a thriving central business district, thanks in part to the support of a downtown council for development and a downtown manager. The upscale shopping is complemented by an excellent selection of outstanding restaurants. From Szechwan to steaks to Cajun cuisine, you'll find whatever suits your palate in Madison.

Madison NJ "The Rose City"

Madison is nicknamed "The Rose City," which is a nod to the city's booming floral industry, which bloomed up after the Civil War. The city was well connected due to its railways, so Madison became one of the nation's leading rose producers.

Floral companies and opulent real estate in Madison attracted working class people from all walks of life. British, French, Irish, African American, German and Italian workers all came to Madison in search of work and a share of the rose industry's riches. The diverse populations have brought a rich cultural tapestry to modern day Madison.

A Bit About Madison NJ Schools

The Madison Public School System serves children from kindergarten to twelfth grade with three elementary schools, one junior high school and one high school. The high school's class size averages around 800 students a year.

The private Catholic elementary school in Madison is Saint Vincent Martyr School. SVMS recently received a blue ribbon award in 2006 from the No Child Left Behind program. It offers classes for children from age 3 through sixth grade.

Madison is also home to several schools of higher learning. Drew University is the city's most famous college. The city is also home to Fairleigh Dickinson University's College at Florham on the former estate of Florence Vanderbilt and Hamilton Twombly.

Corporate headquarters are also prevalent in Madison. Atlantic Mutual Insurance, Maersk Lines, Quest Diagnostics, Wyeth (formerly called American Home Products) and the offices of Schering-Plough all make their home in this diverse city.

Madison has known a fair share of fame. Episodes of "The Sopranos" were shot in town on the Drew University campus and at the city's famous Rod's Ranch House. Films like "A Beautiful Mind" and "The World According to Garp" were filmed in the city, as well as many other noteworthy movies.

Because of its vibrant shopping and dining, great public transportation and outstanding schools, Madison real estate is in high demand. Madison realtors can help you find the perfect home to call your own, but they need to know the community well in order to maximize your home buying options. Be sure the realtor you choose has a great appreciation for the entire package the city has to offer and you'll be well on your way to finding the perfect Madison home to fit your lifestyle.
