North Koreans Accuse US of Trashing Their Image

The North Korean news service printed an editorial on Saturday accusing the United States of trashing its global image and shifting the responsibility for the stalled six-party, nuclear weapons talks onto them.

Their complaints are the result of US law enforcement allegations that the North Koreans are trafficking in counterfeit US money, drugs, cigarettes and other contraband.

"The United States is now busy floating fictions of smuggling of fake cigarettes and smuggling of drugs in a bid to achieve a sinister purpose," the official Korean Central News Agency said in its commentary.

"It is a true nature peculiar to the United States to spread sheer lies and interfere in the internal affairs of other countries and realize its attempt at aggression on their basis,"the commentary said.

Last year, the US government prohibited American institutions from conducting any business with Banco Delta Asia claiming US law enforcement believed it helped launder funds from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea which are suspected to have been derived from trafficking drugs and counterfeit goods.

Then the US government followed up by blacklisting eight North Korean companies for allegedly supporting Pyongyang's nuclear-weapons programs.

Federal law-enforcement agents arrested nearly 100 individuals for allegedly trafficking counterfeit US $100 bills, cigarettes and drugs into America and Europe, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The North Koreans reacted by demanding the US stop its crackdown on DPRK's commercial activities before they would sit down once again for the so-called six-party negotiations.
