Human Smugglers, Death on the Highways
Once the groups arrive at a transportation point, by night or day, dangerous situations soon develop for motorists on rural roads or Highways.
Smugglers with overloaded vehicles driving with “lights out” have been responsible for numerous deaths and serious injuries during
the hours of darkness. Even in daylight hours, things get a little crazy along the Border.
One of many cases involving the transportation of illegal aliens in 2005 was presented in Tucson Federal Court on February 2,2006.
According to Open Source News, defendants Jose Luis Zepeda-Cruz , Jimir Valle-Martinez, Julio Garcia and Wilbert Garcia were indicted on conspiracy and Violations of 8 USC 1324, bringing in and transporting illegal entrants.
Near Sierra Vista, Arizona nineteen illegal aliens were packed into a Ford F-350 pickup allegedly driven by Valle-Martinez. Two trucks were to be used for transportation to Phoenix. A Cochise County Sheriff’s Sergeant observed the F-350 nearly collide with another car and tried to stop the vehicle. The driver failed to yield to the officer and began evasive high speed tactics including running stop lights.
The Sheriff’s Officer radioed other deputies due the reckless driving conditions and pursued at a safe distance, standard policy.
Per authorities, the Driver of the F-350 lost control, sliding sidewise at speeds up to 96 mph. The truck smashed into a median and nine cars stopped at a traffic light near the entrance to the U.S. Army Fort Huachuca gate.
Three illegal aliens riding in the pickup were killed on Impact. Two innocent motorists James Lee and Emilia Guthrie Lee were also killed in the crash impacting their vehicle. 25 other people were injured on the scene.
Fatal Traffic accidents involving over-loaded human trafficking vehicles have been a major problem from California to Texas. Near the Border, defensive driving is sometimes a question of survival for tourists on a quiet drive in rural areas or within city limits.
